No-name congressman thinks he’s a big deal

It’s a list of demands that makes even Mariah Carey look low-maintenance.

A hefty, eight-page memo detailing what it takes to be a driver for Rep. Todd Rokita has been revealed — and it’s not for the faint of heart.

The Indiana congressman demands that his chauffeurs double as personal assistants who greet him at pickup with a fresh cup of hot, black coffee and never be without gum and hand sanitizer.

Rokita’s toiletry bag, with his toothbrush and toothpaste, is to be kept in the trunk of the car, along with a nearly 20-item supply box dubbed “The Football” containing an always-stocked inventory of more gum, hand sanitizer, a blue Sharpie (for signing letters), lozenges, Kleenex, a stapler, staples and a staple remover and Shout wipes.

Besides chauffeuring him, drivers must ensure that Rokita is never photographed with a drink in his hand — but are asked to “get Todd a non-alcoholic drink that he can carry with him” when he arrives at an event.

“Water, diet soda and coffee are best,” the memo advised.

The Republican’s diva-like demands are outlined in the internal memo titled “Instructions on Staffing and Driving” and obtained by Politico.

The politician is also quite the backseat driver, demanding that he be informed of “turns and sudden stops” and that his driver avoid “sudden acceleration or braking.”

“The goal is to provide as smooth a ride as possible,” the memo said.

A coat hanger must always be available in the vehicle so Rokita can hang up his coat or jacket.

The 47-year-old, a top contender in Indiana’s competitive GOP Senate race next year, also does not want to be interrupted “with unnecessary conversation” during his precious prep time in the car.

And don’t let him forget his personal items after an event or meeting.

I realize this guy is just some big-head schlub who thinks the world revolves around him but it did remind me of someone a bit more well known, John Kasich.

Remember Erick Erickson? He was a rising star who destroyed his career when he dumped Trump from the Red State Gathering because Trump offended Megyn Kelly. Years before that Erickson had to chauffeur Kasich around Georgia for a couple of days so he could go to a few campaign rallies. He said that Kasich was the most pompous, arrogant jerk of a politician he had ever met in his life, this coming from a person who has met more than his fair share of pompous politicians. It's a good glimpse into how politicians view themselves as contrasted with the little people who they want to "serve"

Send him home to rotate on his toothbrush.

Not a veteran. Yech!

No. Unpaid service part time like the Founding Fathers wanted.

Or some small stipend.

I read through it and it seems folks are stretching a bit to deplore his “demands”. Simple to stock the trunk with the items he wants and maybe at monthly intervals and how much trouble to keep a coat hangar in the car. The drinks/public image bits also make sense in these times. I wonder what sort of demands others make that don’t get put out in the public eye because someone wants to erode his/her image to folks.....

That this nobody Congress Critter uses the term “football”, an allusion no doubt to the nuclear code “football”, for his personal toiletry bag says everything one needs to know about an ego far more inflated than any football.

Considering that Rokita is in the middle of a very acrimonious fight for the Indiana Senate nomination, I'm betting that Messer's people had something to do with this. They will rip each other apart and allow the Democrat to squeeze back in for re-election.

Just a suggestion folks...

Before you get all wee-weed up over this article,
you might want to check out this guy’s voting record.

100% Pro Life

“A” Rating from the NRA

Does NOT believe in anthropogenic climate change

Backed Trump on the immigration ban

Wants to reduce the Department of Education and supports Charter Schools and School Vouchers

Voted repeatedly for Obamacare repeal

Against ANY government healthcare regulation that costs money

Opposes Federal Regulation of Agriculture

Just a thought here, but do you maybe suppose that this article might just be a hit piece on a guy who is a strong Conservative?

And maybe he is an ass.
If he votes the way we want, then at least he’s *our* ass.

True. I am a big proponent of written procedures and policies. This guys requirements don't seem out of line in today's world. Heck I have all that stuff in every one of my vehicles and being met with a hot cup of joe will earn my gratitude.

"....Kasich was the most pompous, arrogant jerk of a politician he had ever met in his life...."

Just exactly how I had John Katich pegged. An arrogant asshole who thinks his sh*t don't stink.

Talks about himself and his "accomplishments" as if he were God's gift to the political world.

NOT.

OK...if he's as good as you claim one would think that life would have taught him some lessons about humility.

Just sayin'...

If I was a Congressman, I’d want my paid staff to work just as hard and with as much attention to detail as this memo suggests.

The memo was written by his staff, so it sounds like they know what helps him and what doesn’t. Which means he has hired well.
