On Friday, three well-known charities — the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Susan G. Komen — announced they are canceling plans for fundraising events at President Trump's Palm Beach country club, Mar-a-Lago.

I certainly wouldn't be a donor to the Red Cross and never, ever donate a thing to Komen (a Planned Parenthood partner) but am sad to learn about the cowardice of Salvation Army (if this story is correct) and will discontinue my generous donations to their organization.

Salvation Army is a real pity; been donating to those folks for over 47 years.
They will never get another dime from me.

I have been donating to Salvation Army for over 47 years, in fact in two weeks I will be headed down the mountain to my home in So. Cal.
Was going to bring a lot of stuff (and money) down to the Downey Salvation Army, they wont be getting any thing form me now, in fact it will all go into the burn pile tomorrow.
Yes, I will remember this Christmas and they can kiss my ass.
I have a very long memory and I am a VINDICTIVE SOB.

I have a whole pickup load of folded, boxed clothing and a few boxes of tools that were going down the mountain with me in a couple of weeks, the destination was the Salvation Army in Downey, Ca.
It all goes into the burn pile tomorrow morning.
The tools I will deliver to our local FFA at the High School as soon as school opens.

Yep - and The Salvation Army has been one of the good ones. Too bad they buckled to pressure to ignore the TRUTH of Trump’s remarks - maybe because so many of those they help “fit the profile”.

(Suggestions for this year’s Salvation Army bell ringers.....)

It would be better if the pots would fill with folded notes that simply said, MAGA.

Love it...and, I will add....I Support Pres Trump....to my note.

Excellent idea!

We normally have one GENEROUS contributor who drops a gold coin ($1,200.00 or so) in someone’s bucket. Wonder if that will happen this year?

S/He’s GOT to be a Conservative; a Liberal only ‘gives’ with confiscated and redistributed wealth! ;)

Let me give a little background for my statement.

I have many close friends who work in the non profit “industry”. These events were the type that typically attracts wealthy individuals, and their supporters. Most of those are left leaning (because that will protect them), and are very careful about what they visibly attend and support.

In talking with a friend of mine who is a fundraiser, he said that even before the events of last week, he would have moved the location of the event. Not because of any one thing, but because of the type of people who attend such events, and the risk of getting drawn into politics. Simply put, the goal of any non profit is profit. They will do anything to pull more money in. They also enjoy hobnobbing with wealthy patrons.

So when I said that most will forget this by Christmas, it was based of a conversation with him. His group has made similar statements in the past, and will again. He stated “Most conservatives give money, time, and resources without expecting a fancy ball. Most liberals want the golf tournament, charity events, and what not. So we can’t afford to make the liberals mad, and we don’t worry about the conservatives. They will always come back. The liberals won’t.”

Knowing him has made me very cynical when it comes to large charities. So much that I don’t donate much to them, choosing to act on the ground more than through organizations. As a result, I have been called “Hateful” more than once by people whose livelihood depends on being the middleman in charity.

So while I know why they pulled out of Mar-A-Lago, I also know why I stopped giving to them years ago.

ALL of these “charities” are for-profit entities whereby they pay themselves ridiculous money then leave a small percentage to charity.

The fact is, they spend on charity the same amount as any for-profit corporation must spend on other things, so to the lavishly paid executives there is no difference to them personally.

Not the Salvation Army. Donations to that organization go directly to the cause, not administration. They are a church.

Backing out is puzzling, but they just went with the crowd.

I stopped giving to large charities years ago when I was old enough to realize that the charity I was supporting was the lifestyles of the charity staff.

That $13,000 is Internet rumor. Try getting a factual source and jut “I read it on the Internet”.

I know finding a factual source will be difficult because schools don’t know how to teach fact from fiction, but give it a try.

No, they are not. They are a corporation. By their own admissions, they take in over $14 BILLION dollars a year.

They also compete and win commercial contracts. They do not live just on donations and charity. They also are required by law to compete for those contracts to maintain independent financial audits for which they claim they do not have and refuse to make public. They hide their financial details from the public.

The Salvation Army is a money making scam. Period.

Same here. Give to the Red Cross so Bob Dole’s wife could ride in limos and charter private jets.

The same “church” pastor that claims people need to give then get sin his Mercedes and drives away while plooking his assistant.

Maybe you are correct, total managerial and general expenses are $455,000. Probably not all is director income.
