LOL, workers at these things review the “companies” on indeed.com. Some review snippets below. These are actually quite encouraging! Maybe every young person needs to spend a year doing this “work.” The surprising thing is these young person reviews all indicate some nascent recognition of the value of competition, hard work / reward relationship, and understanding that this is a dead-end thing. There are few guns-ho reviews and I suspect those are bogus written by the “managers.”

Indeed.com reviews:

The only problem is when you multiply out how much we’re being paid as canvass directors by how many hours we work it does not add up to a living wage.

Cons: Not enough pay
Cons: stressful quota, long hours, constant exposure to elements, base pay is somehow only minimum wage

Also if you didn’t make a quota you would be fired.

Cons: Treated like trash by people who disagreed with us

Some of their policies are awful. They do not have direct deposit, and they make you sign an agreement where you state that if you do not receive your last paycheck, it is fine.

Poor Management and Undesirable Hours
This job basically consists of you, a paid canvasser on a mixture of Virginia and D.C. minimum wage ($7.50 Va, 12.50 D.C.), going around neighborhoods in Northern Virginia, asking people to donate money so they can fund your paycheck. The work is physically draining due to canvassing hours taking place from 4-9 pm, in outrageous summer temperatures. You learn practically nothing from the work and are required to work all weekdays. If you happen to miss a weekday, you are required to make it up on a Saturday. Announcements are meant to energize you for the day but really get repetitive and time-consuming. You will canvass with a variety of tablets (Samsung, LG, etc.) that often come with performance problems. If you can’t pretend to be extremely enthusiastic for 5 hours a day while begging for money, don’t even apply.
