,i>"Detroit City" - Bobby Bare

Detroit City #2--Ben Colder (1963)

Last night, I took a nap in Detroit City,
And I dreamed about my papa's old cotton patch.
My poor back was breakin'
Both my knees was achin'
The red bugs kept on bitin,
But I didn't have time to scratch.

I don't want to go home,
I don't want to go home.
Nobody wants to go home.

That's funny!

(Didn't somebody once say that you can't go home again?)

After that Ben Colder version was made, I believe Detroit closed all their auto factories, so they'll have to change that tune, maybe to Bobby Bare's version!     :-)

Here's a different song made about that town (which was smoking at the time I guess), and I think that, sadly, in a sense it is still smoking (or drastically declining).   (Here's that other song.)    ---     "The Motor City is Burning" - MC5
