I would guess that apple pays a prosessing fee for each iTunes transaction.
If each of us donated one cent to the cause apple would have to spend ten or twenty times that out of pocket.

The shareholders have first claim on those funds.
This is NOT the personal piggy bank of the employee.
Where is the class action lawsuit.

It is idiotic acts like this $1 million donation to the Souther Poverty Law Center that keep Steve Jobs spinning in his grave. He famously said that Apple should never be involved in political donations or causes, and in fact kept Apple out of any controversial donations at all. Steve said that half of Apple's customer base were conservatives and he was not about to "piss off half of our customers." The donations that were made under his watch with Apple's name associated with them were done by the Apple Employees' Political Action Committee, not Apple as a company. Tim Cook has not listened to this sage advice from Jobs. Steve held that if employees or company officers wanted to support something political or a charity, they could do it in their personal lives, with their own money, but not in their business lives or in Apple's name. PING!

In a memo to employees of Apple, Inc., CEO Tim Cook announced that the tech giant would be donating $1 million each to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and Anti-Defamation League (ADL), matching donations by employees two-for-one, and allowing iTunes users to directly support the work of the SPLC.
The ADL is a good group, but the SLPC is not. The KKK and Nazi fools have given Apple cover to nurture a radical left-wing organization - I doubt they'd have done this when the conversation was about Google firing an employee for making a balanced, reasonable argument.

The KKK and Nazi fools have given Apple cover to nurture a radical left-wing organization I am inclined to suspect the fools you refer to know exactly what they are doing - providing an occasion for the Democrats to slander American society. SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher. Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer. Government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence; the palaces of kings are built upon the ruins of the bowers of paradise. For were the impulses of conscience clear, uniform and irresistibly obeyed, man would need no other lawgiver; but that not being the case, he finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest; and this he is induced to do by the same prudence which in every other case advises him, out of two evils to choose the least. Wherefore, security being the true design and end of government, it unanswerably follows that whatever form thereof appears most likely to ensure it to us, with the least expense and greatest benefit, is preferable to all others. - Thomas Paine, Common Sense (1776)
My theory is that what Paine referred to as government as distinct from society is not always such a clear-cut division - in the sense that a slaveowner would have been thought of as a member of society - and yet, in his own domain, he was a tyrannical government. Where Paine alluded to some writers, we would say, Democrats - in and out of journalism. Journalism today aspires (note the singular form of the verb; journalists as a class are joined at the hip by the Associated Press newswire) to be the actual government, binding the president and destroying his ability to control the government.
