DEFENDERS of President Donald Trump offer two arguments in his favour—that he is a businessman who will curb the excesses of the state; and that he will help America stand tall again by demolishing the politically correct taboos of left-leaning, establishment elites. From the start, these arguments looked like wishful thinking. After Mr Trump’s press conference in New York on August 15th they lie in ruins.
The unscripted remarks were his third attempt to deal with violent clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the weekend (see article). In them the president stepped back from Monday’s—scripted—condemnation of the white supremacists who had marched to protest against the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee, a Confederate general, and fought with counter-demonstrators, including some from the left. In New York, as his new chief of staff looked on dejected, Mr Trump let rip, stressing once again that there was blame “on both sides”. He left no doubt which of those sides lies closer to his heart.

One thing professional politicians and political consultants do well — maybe the only thing, maybe not — is issue statements when something terrible happens. Another is damage control after they say something that provokes an outcry. That’s something Donald Trump has to figure out — and quickly, too.

Come on, nobody is buying this narrative anymore. They’re tons of videos of these guys one line show them what they’ve done over the last couple of years. Even a New York Times Reporter tweeted out how violent the counter protesters were and how they were hitting people with baseball bats and she deleted her tweets I guess out of fear of being fired from her leftwing rag. Even the cops said how violent they were.
Oh by the way the majority of Americans support keeping those statues up the majority or against removing them so I guess we’re all Nazis huh?

I had a subscription to the Economist for 20 years. It was good to read news from an outside perspective. They jumped the shark when they endorsed Obammy in 2008.
I let the subscription run out right after that and have never looked back.

I did too, for just about that long. Once upon a time they had a fair grasp of American politics but those days are long past. Lots of staff turnover, lots of new faces, huge loss in erudition and credibility. Like you, I gave up the subscription and washed my hands of something fine having turned into something worthless.
What Trump said was the truth.
The Ministry of Propaganda can’t handle the truth.
I find the ‘stuff’ that is going on in this country such childishness and I wonder where so many have time for such nonsense. If we were in a war with another country or if we were being attacked with bullets raining down on every city in the land, all the nuts who are going crazy fighting each other or tearing down statues, would be finding a basement or somewhere to save their sorry hide. They’d not be out picking a fight with their equal nutso neighbor. But as it is, they have all this free time and spending it on just plain destruction.
If some of these tv talking heads suddenly lost a child through an accident or health issue, maybe the’d find something more to consider important than talking endless about things they know nothing about.. or trying to remove a President.
You see, I find all this so endlessly childish and unimportant, and do not understand how those who claim to be so smart, are acting so stupid. They go on and on, day after day talking about such things that shows they have not grown up yet.
I have joined the club of “parent who lost a child”... and NOTHING will put all this into its proper perspective like going through 2 years of seeing cancer take the life of a child you gave birth to and love with all your heart. and there is nothing that will stop it from happening... and living without that child.. trying to...
From that side of life, I look at these thankless idiots and I think a firing squad could end their misery .. for they have no right to exist in the country they hate and are trying to destroy... that goes for the talking heads also.
