ALBANY -- A city police officer pleaded guilty to a violation Thursday, admitting he fled the scene of a predawn-car crash in Pine Hills in May.

The patrolman, Shawn Dixon, pleaded guilty before City Court Judge Holly Trexler to leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He agreed to pay $50 in restitution to the other driver involved.

Dixon, who joined the Albany police force in July 2015, faced a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. He pleaded guilty to the violation, which is a akin to a traffic ticket.

"Sir, were you driving or operating the vehicle when the accident or crash happened?" the judge asked Dixon.

"Yes, your honor," the patrolman replied.

"And sir, do you admit that you knowingly left the scene of the crash?" Trexler asked.

Dixon answered that he did.

Police have said that on May 4, Dixon, while off-duty, drove past a red light and slammed into another car near the corner of West Lawrence Street and Myrtle Avenue about 3:30 a.m.

They said Dixon's bumper and license plate were found at the scene. Police found Dixon's car on Ryckman Avenue shortly after the crash was reported and towed it.

The other driver told police Dixon T-boned his car by slamming into it at a right angle.

The other driver sought treatment for minor injuries the next day, police said.

Dixon has been suspended without pay.

$50. Dollars?
That wouldn’t even pay for his lawyer’s haircut and shampoo!

” Police found Dixon’s car on Ryckman Avenue shortly after the crash was reported and towed it.”

My guess is that that they did not find Dixon for sometime after that. This appears to be a classic case of not getting caught driving under the influence.

$50 is the other drivers co-pay for a fractured nose. He (I know him) had the misfortune of looking at the car as it T-boned and totaled his car.

No more thin blue line for him. His career is over, and like another poster said, he was probably hammered.

Alcoholism is rife in the blue ranks.
