The number of asylum seekers who illegally crossed the U.S. border into Canada more than tripled last month, according to Canadian government data released on Thursday, as migrants worried about the U.S. administration's immigration crackdown head north.
More than 3,100 people walked across the border illegally in July to file refugee claims and were arrested, up from 884 in June, the federal government said.
Ninety-six percent of them went to Quebec, where an influx of asylum seekers, primarily Haitians, is sparking a backlash from opposition politicians and anti-immigrant groups in the primarily French-speaking province.
The Montreal suburb of Boucherville has received dozens of messages on social media denouncing the asylum seekers, some of whom are being housed at a former seniors’ home in the quiet suburb, according to local media reports. Montreal, Quebec's biggest city, opened its Olympic Stadium to house the arrivals.
Sylvain Brouillette, a spokesman for right-wing extremist group La Meute which is organizing a Quebec City protest on Sunday, said his group is protesting the "policies of the Trudeau government toward illegal immigration."

It baffles me to know end that Haitians should be leaving their tropical paradise. Just across the hill in the Dominican Republic, life is far better. Don't see them leaving except to join a major league baseball team.

There was a story just last week how Haitians were taking taxis up to where some dirt road ends at the Canadian border.

Know someone who traveled to the DR. He said he had a great time and everybody there was a baseball fan. He also said they have a strong border presence to keep Haitians out.
It was all well and good and we Americans were racists for not taking them in BEFORE the illegals were coming across their border.

Here is an article printed in the San Diego Union Tribune a few months ago about Haitians trying to crash the U.S. border in Tijuana, Mexico. At the tail end of the 0bama administration a lot of them got into the U.S. claiming some sort of phony asylum. It think the Trump adminstration is not giving asylum to them. I think some of the same Haitians that were in Tijuana a few months ago are now crossing into Canada.
Cruel racist Canadians not wanting to to share their Privilege with these unfortunate people.
