My question too, What legal process is there to stay in the the US once you enter illegally, by a visa overstay or otherwise? The process should be, you get a work visa, a SS number, and whatever else you need, then enter the country.

There are ways to change status. 60% of all green cards are issued to people already here under change of status. I won’t go into them here, but it is a thriving business for these leeches called immigration lawyers. If it were up to me, there would be very few issued in that manner.
