Michael Bennett is calling on all NFL players — black and white — to participate in the national anthem protests.

In the Seahawks' first preseason game on Sunday, the defensive end sat for the anthem, continuing the movement started by quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

However, Bennett said just a few players protesting the anthem isn't enough.

I rather watch soccer now anyway.

Interesting note.

FC Cincinnati attracted over 30,000 fans to their US Open Cup Semi-Final against NY Red Bull, and this isn’t even an MLS team.

Disappointed? I think the NFL could survive if it was just disappointment. Disappointment wasn’t what caused me to turn it off two seasons ago. Disappointment wasn’t what caused the hubby to ditch it last year.

If the NFL, the networks, affiliates, advertisers think the NFL is just engendering in disappointment....

I like international soccer, but our MLS simply isn’t very good in comparison to other leagues available through cable packages. In my area we have the English league available live on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Regardless of the league, it is great to watch sporting events without commercials...

It’s actually much better to go to MLS games in person, the atmosphere is great for a lot of the teams. I went to a Atlanta United game, and it was sold out, and the fans were really into it.

FC Dallas unfortunately, comes up way short in that department. Their stadium is in a bad location.

People have told me the same up here (the Red Bulls play in the next town - Harrison NJ); the tickets are cheaper than other sporting events and the atmosphere is great. I took my kids there to see the US team practice before the last World Cup.

FWIW, nice to see NYC get a new MLS team that actually plays in NYC; we have the NY Red Bulls, Giants, and Jets playing here in NJ.

Actually real Americans were influenced by Kapernick, TV viewership dropped 35% after that and temained at that lower level.

That has a direct effect on TV revenue this year.

I just hate that FC Cincinnati blew that 2-0 lead, that would have been a great story if a non-MLS team won the US Open Cup.

I noticed here in Dallas, that most Cowboy fans aren’t all that upset with Ezekiel Elliott’s six-game suspension, they think he deserves it. People are tired of the thugs.

I’m not familiar with their league; we still have the Cosmos (an NASL team), but they are a lower tier than MLS. They’ll often borrow inactive players from them.

Never thought I would see the day that a television dancing show had more integrity and patriotism than the NFL.
So You Think You Can Dance television show drops judges and choreographers when they step out of line.

Several years ago a woman was a choreographer and then a judge on the show. She wore a disrespectful military uniform one night and the show got a lot of blowback from viewers. The show’s producer apologized at the very beginning number the very next week! BAM! She was summarily dismissed and never seen again on the show.

Later a choreographer did a social justice warrior number where every dancer had to do the same routine to a thoroughly disgusting piece of liberal hogwash. BAM! Gone and never returned.

Recently a homosexual, who plays a homosexual on some other TV show, proudly said to a dancer while serving as a judge “My husband is going to hate me for saying this, but I have such a man-crush on you.” BAM! Gone never to return.

Meanwhile the NFL does nothing to halt this despicable display of stupidity and insulting disrespect to the majority of their fans.

Football can’t escape the demographic disaster in this country; we import too many soccer and cricket fans now...

The problem football has, is there much more one can do with their time these days. I quit watching some years ago when the bears and colts started really stinking it up. Same with the rams, they stunk so bad the great sports fans in St. Louis quit going to the games. They high tailed it back to the west coast.

Being a vet, I take some offense to players going out of their way to insult the country. Just keep it low key, by just standing there at ease during the anthem.

I made a consumer decision to stop watching the NFL in the mid 90s when the Rams left Anaheim for St. Louis. I have not regretted my decision and love my free Sundays.

Another thing, now that Fox carries the Bundesliga, they will show a lot of Dortmund games, with Christian Pulisic, who may very well become the first legitimate US world-class player.

This will end the NFL. I will not watch sports if I hear/see politics. I watch sports to escape politics (but not to escape stress obviously, the Braves lost 17-2 to the Rockies last night!)

The NFL is proving Pogo the opossum to be a profit when he he uttered these famous words, “We have met the enemy and they are us.”

I hope so; I listen to people spout how “the next World Cup” will be the one where the US breaks out - and I hear it EVERY FOUR YEARS. My town in NJ had three starters on the US team in 1994, so there is probably more enthusiasm for soccer here than in many other places; even so, very smart, rational people here swear we’re on the cusp of winning a World Cup - again!

I think more people would watch if the total investment of time per game was 2 hours tops; now a game routinely lasts more than three (or even three and a half) hours.

I don’t associate patriotism with football, but agree any issues should be low-key.

I really don't care if you, or anyone else is offended by my comment. Free speech is not always politically correct speech.

But perhaps I should elaborate on my comment.

Believe me my Free Republic friend, There are just as many white NFL players that have zero skills outside of football as any other color. They just aren't protesting the flag. And in doing so, alienating their fans and the people who make those mega salary's possible.

I am friends with and work with people of every race, color, religion and ethnic background. I can be friends and work with anyone. If your stupid though, you and I may be going to have issues. These players are being stupid. We live in the freest land on earth. I know because I have spent my entire adult life defending freedom across the globe and have seen how people struggle to just survive in other countries.

I am quite sure some NFL players have life skills outside football and many have degrees from prestigious universities.

Many pro football players were identified as young as middle school as having football talent and coached, coddled and pursued by college coaches since they were young. Many left college early and entered the NFL Draft with no degree.

There aren't many small farmers making millions of dollars every year for playing a game.
