Save The Alamo ^ | 2017 | Rick Range

Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is foisting upon the people of Texas a horrible and disrespectful plan for the Alamo. He has consistently thwarted or ignored every objection by the citizens of this State and all attempts to stop it.The current plan for the Alamo is a looming disaster that must be prevented.

Note that the linked article at “savethealamo.us” doesn’t very accurately or rather, not accurately at all, describe the proposed master plan.

You really need to read the actual proposed plan before you get too excited.
THEN if you don’t like it, fair enough, but read the REAL plan first.

“You are free to make the Alamo solely about that memorial.”

They are not concerned about what I make of it. It is the use of constituted societal authority for the purposes of future indoctrination. Have you ever associated the Alamo with 10,000 years of indigenous people? The Alamo does not go back that far. And the only thing that makes it worthwhile is the battle event in 1836.

Do you know why the Alamo is in that location?

“Do you know why the Alamo is in that location?”

Without looking it up, from my memory, it was kind of structure used by Catholic missionaries.

But its previous history has nothing at all to do with what it is now. It was chosen as a fortress by the Texas defenders for defense purposes, and they were not interested in the history of the building at all. Their heroic defense and their deaths hallowed the Alamo, not its previous history.

“But its previous history has nothing at all to do with what it is now”

The history of how and why the structure came to be isn’t part of the Alamo’s history? Why it’s there shouldn’t be covered? Shouldn’t complete history be covered what with it being classified as a historical monument?

I like to know my state history beyond the blood and glory bits. That means learning about Spanish mission systems like the Alamo. That means finding out why the good priests selected that location to build it and which peoples were around. Etc.

By all means, visit the Alamo as a battle shrine for the hallowed dead but please don’t ask that the history lesson stop there.

Critics of the project would do well to read the links above and note that quite a bit of it is in contrast to the author of the link. In reality the Alamo does have more history than just the battle as noted in the pdf link. Restoring to as close as possible to the original is a noble idea. The legislature took Alamo custody from DRT not Bush. Cenotaph moved to south end not blocks away. The south wall is original type materials. I didn’t see fiberglas claims on north wall but I might have missed it. Visit Bracketville for another perspective.

My concerns revolve around protecting the new “plaza” from protestors of all stripes and keeping the LaRaza Castro brothers from having any say about the project.

Unless more detailed and “accurate” negative evidence is presented, I believe this is a worthy project. And I say this as a sixth generation Texan and 60+ year south Texan that flies my “Come and Take It” and Texas flags on my flagpole frequently. It would be dangerous for “wet” lovers and antifas to try to take it down!

The Catholic missionaries probably threw up countless structures of that type. You can spend countless hours learning the history of each one if you choose. Why exalt one over another, if that is what you are interested in that aspect? And I can assure you, you will be the only person interested in them.

There are few people who will not recognize, from the video, that the battle is being de-emphasized. The Battle of the Alamo is American heritage, not the previous history of the structure.

The second PDF was long but reveals a lot about how much of the structure has changed over the years. It also makes a good case for viewing the Alamo in a wider historical perspective and restoring the south entrance plaza. There is a good vision there. Thank you.

“Battle of the Alamo is American heritage,”

One niggle there. We weren’t American yet and would become our own republic before joining. I would say it’s Texan history rather than American. But as a Texan I’m probably a chauvinist about Texas. Most of us are.

And yes the missionaries did plant a lot of missions but the Alamo is special for more than just the battle. There is specific history there. And it’s military importance did not stop at the battle.

And if I’m the only person interested (I hope not!) they probably wouldn’t consider building this.

And with that it’s time for me to do something other than chat on freerepublic. Thank you for your time and Have a good day. :)

One of my long-running taglines is:

"Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad! REPEAT San Jacinto!!!"

~~~~~~~~~
I have, just now, revised it:
"Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad! Treat George P. Bush like Santa Ana at San Jacinto!!!"
~~~~~~~~~

IOW, Run George P. Bush's sorry @$$ out of our beloved TEXAS!!!

"The clear walls are an aesthetic choice that some will not like but I think it’s nice that the view of the Alamo and its central vanishing point wont be obscured by an opaque wall."

Moosake! A simple opening or window would suffice for that purpose.

Besides, who the #3!! are you to suggest trashing Texas history?

(I'm a Texas Archaeological Steward; every day of my life, I work to preserve Texas heritage...)

I love your revised tagline. Hopefully, this will be the end of George P’s political career.

I have read it...and here are a few of the “multicultural” warning signs of what’s to come for this diverse Disneyland experience.

“Shape a place of healing – a bridge that will connect the
many wonderful cultures and people who have contributed
greatly to the rich history of the site.” - Page 4

“Include and interpret the diverse cultures that contributed
to the story of the Alamo area through meaningful and
memorable experiences for visitors.” - Page 5

“Balance scholarship, historical context, folklore and myth to
provide an engaging visitor experience.” - Page 5

“Embrace the continuum of history to foster understanding and
healing.” - Page 5

“Interpreting the [Spanish Muslim Moors’] acequias that provided water to the historic
compound.” - Page 20

There is no possible way to restore the “original space” of the Alamo.

This is not about updating. It is about destroying. Destroying our history, our cutlure, our importance.

The article is full of outrages. It upset me.

The Bushes are the enemies of all true Texans.
