FHP trooper (purposely) nearly struck on I-95 while assisting other driver

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was nearly hit by a car while he assisted another driver near Ormond Beach, (Daytona Beach area) FHP spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes said Tuesday.

Trooper Cody Brown, 20, dodged a silver 2006 Chrysler 300 traveling southbound on Interstate 95 by diving between his patrol car and a semi-truck he had been assisting for over an hour, near the exit onto State Road 40.

Montes said a car “abruptly switched” to the outside lane on the interstate at 5:23 p.m. and almost struck Brown before the vehicle, which is registered in Fort Lauderdale, swerved back into the main lanes. The car got off on S.R. 40, ran a red light and got back on I-95 — never stopping, despite Brown’s attempts to catch up with the vehicle.

Brown suffered minor injures, but he was not hit. Criminal charges are pending.

KEYWORDS:
#1, Other news sites have the story as the driver of the Chrysler PURPOSELY swerved over 3 lanes to hit the trooper, but their web links will not post/link to FR

#2, Chrysler 300s, especially 10 year old ones, are exceptionally popular among certain "groups." They gave up Buicks for Chryslers.

Sorry to make a stereotypical assumption, but the facts are that model of car is beloved in those "groups."

Perhaps, but probably also had the Moon Disk hubcaps and was an Earl Scheib purple repaint.

True, a drive through Spring Valley when we were in NY a few months ago and the Sulphur Springs area of Tampa verifies that. And "six fo's" have been popular with them since they were new. If I had a dollar for everyone who asks me if my Impala bounces... :)

Florida is bad about this kind of thing. I know a guy who was run into a guard rail in Dec. on a Florida multi-lane highway while riding his motorcycle. He’s still laid up waiting on a replacement knee at this point. All he saw was a dark skinned guy showing his teeth (smiling) in a white Impala as he was run into the rail. Totaled the bike. He won’t ride again.

I lived in FL for a number of years, and had a FL friend get a call that her daughter (a 20+ y/o motorcycle rider) was found in the divider of one of the N/S interstates around 3 am in the morning. She had been run into the divider by person or persons unknown and left for dead. She was in a coma for weeks, and when she (miraculously) awoke she had no recollection of what happened. Being a 20-something, she ended up going back to riding motorcycles again (amazing)...

I remember those interstate commutes (2000-2007) and ended up carrying most of the time. You had no clue if the person in the next lane was a dementia sufferer hallucinating about alien attacks, or a hopped-up drug runner or gang member(s) looking for trouble because they were bored.

Getting out of FL was one of the best moves I ever made....

Seems like FL has gotten like CA. The weather is good but outside of that; blah.
