STONE MOUNTAIN, GA (CBS46) -
Former Georgia House Minority Leader and candidate for governor of the state Stacey Abrams is calling for the Confederate carvings on Stone Mountain to be removed.
Abrams tweeted that the carvings is a "blight on our state and should be removed". She also tweeted that "Confederate monuments belong in museums where we can study and reflect on that terrible history, not in places of honor across our state".
The Confederate Memorial Carving has images of Confederacy President Jefferson Davis and Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson and were not complete until a dedication ceremony on May 9, 1970. Finishing touches were completed in 1972.
Abrams says the carvings have no place in the state and were "paid for by the founders of the second wave of the Ku Klux Klan." She also says the carvings have "no purpose other than celebration of racism, terror and division when carved"

Maybe instead someone told the BLM folks that there are no (known) Confederates buried at Gettysburg. Almost all were moved to southern cemeteries back in the 1870’s.

They are state property since 1958. Either make it a museum or remove them. No problem. Maybe put to a vote of state citizens? Do it proactively, else watch some idiot climb up there and do it for the state.
Someone needs to explain to these Democrats that Democrats are the real racists. The Confederacy was Democrats, while they were opposed by gun-totin’ Republicans like Harriett Tubman. The KKK are Democrats, and we’re opposed by gun totin’ Republicans like MLK. If we could get that idea out there, the GOP would never lose. Why hasn’t this been done? Rush and Fox News should get on this.
Attack their language, attack their history, attack their heroes, attack their religion and attack their skin color and attack their founders.
Just a wild guess, but I’d say America is fully under attack.
As a conservative Ohioan, I have always admired the heroic sacrifice of the Old South; always scorned LBJ, Carter & Clinton, for dishonoring that heritage.
Who is elected Governor of Georgia, is the business of Georgians. But as a fellow Ameerican, I certainly will pray that they not disgrace an honorable past by electing this apologist, whose words suggest that she does not begin to understand the complex issues involved.
Or why would she want to spit on the most devoted of her fellow citizens?
That would assume that they are smart enough to connect cause and effect. These thugs are just ‘trailer trash’ idiots out to do a bit of ‘wilding’ for fun.
Americans who love their history must protest these Taliban-like efforts. The biggest problem right now is that no one wants to be lumped in with neo-Nazis or subjected to violence, so there will be a strong tendency for respectable people to stay away from vigils and demonstrations that favor the preservation of these monuments. We have to overcome that reluctance. Wanting to honor the enormous sacrifices made by honorable Americans, however misguided their views might seem today, does not make me a Nazi. If we just stand aside (as the cops are doing), there will be nothing to prevent more incidents like the one in Durham, where a bunch of vandals just pulled down a Confederate war memorial. Enough!!!
Good luck on getting that mountain into a museum.
Stacey Abrams is an opportunist who has seen a chance to get some publicity. Take her into a back room and see if she really knows what the carvings are, who did them and when.
Make it a capital offense.

I read these threads and am always amazed that people don’t see where this is all going. In the not-too-distant future whites will be a minority in this country.
And this white minority will be marched to the camps. The “New Majority” wants revenge and they aim to get it.
