A Newsweek piece published last week attacked First Lady Melania Trump and first daughter Ivanka Trump for wearing high heels.
In the piece, which was titled "Melania, Ivanka, and Ivana Trump Wear High Heels, a Symbol of Everything That Is Beautiful and Horrifying About Them," author Nina Burleigh wrote that high heels are out of fashion, but the Trump women still wear them.
She said that's because the they are primarily concerned with appearing attractive to men, not wearing comfortable footwear.
“Historically, the Trumpian women’s shoe of choice was invented not for women but for aristocratic men, men who would never have to work, and who didn’t have to walk much but were carried in litters or carriages,” Burleigh wrote. “Paintings of Louis XIV, the Sun King, show him sporting red-soled heels, posing with one foot forward and pointed out— much like Ivana and Ivanka Trump in countless photographs over the years.”
Likewise, a recent piece in Forbes said that Melania Trump is fashionable, but she's unlikely to become a fashion icon like Michelle Obama.

The author of this “piece” is, ahem, infamous (see below). How does THIS woman dare to advocate for the means by which one can be taken seriously? How does she still have a job?

I still rub my feet remembering the days/years in which high heels was a daily staple. Business dress required it at the time. Age and health may keep some from wearing them later in life, but as I see younger women dressed like coal miners, it makes me cringe. There are comfortable high heels.

Melania Trump and Ivanka are beautiful women who look fantastic, and it is nice to see some glamour in WH!
Female liberal dress is scary, and hard to understand for me. ‘Dress for success’ was a long time quote....not sure what liberals are shooting for now?

My Aunt, who is 90 and worked in government and private sector, still want go out without shoes with heels on them.
The one thing she rails about when watching TV or seeing women who work is their hair, she says most of what she sees is terrible.
Work place dress has gotten entirely too casual and some women wear clothes that are more appropriate for a night out on the town rather than the office.
I agree. Although no longer working, and a fan of casual dress now, it still warms my heart to see a woman like Melania Trump dressed so beautifully!
Our beautiful Melania would look spectacular in anything.
But, she has done a splendid job of dressing for various occasions. She has a wonderful, elegant style that is very much reminiscent of bygone eras.
