Michael Bennett [Seahawks] sits for anthem with more NFL players set to follow

Several players plan protests following violence in Charlottesville Colin Kaepernick still without a team after protest last season Bennett says protest is not a sign of disrespect for military

The day after Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat out the national anthem, his former team-mate Michael Bennett has followed his lead.

The Seattle Seahawks defensive end, who is known for his strong views, sat with a towel draped over his head during the anthem before Sunday’s game against the Los Chargers. Bennett said he plans to continue the protest for the rest of the season, and his stance was influenced by the far-right violence in Charlottesville over the weekend. Colin Kaepernick attracted attention when he chose to kneel for the anthem last season as a protest at racial injustice in the United States.

“The last week, with everything that’s been going on in the last couple months—especially after the last couple days seeing everything in [Charlottesville] Virginia ... [I] just wanted to be able to continue to use my platform to be able to speak on injustice,” Bennett said after Sunday’s game.

It wont be easy watching less games this year.. altho I hardly watched any last year.

Who wants to see a bunch of overpaid whiners sitting on their dead arse from the gitgo of a game. It sets quite a tone .. Thanks Goodell, you incompetent jerk.

Colleges are also paying much better than the NFL. The greedy schools make millions on television contracts and admission and the players get a worthless scholarship for Communication or Women's Studies.

Socialism is great when you control the money.

AFAIK, there is no league wide policy about the National Anthem opening ceremony.

But you better not smoke a joint after the game...............

That’s why I said “ONE thing” he did right.

Of course, he is no different than ALL the other owners in that he is willing to over look several things, as long as those things don’t keep him from lining his pockets with money.

He knows that these protests are costing him and the NFL $$, so he wants no part of that!

He also knows that the rest of the NFL love to HATE the Cowboys, so he doesn’t mind some of the antics of his players - it’s a double-edged sword!

Golf, it’s on all year and the participants are mostly America Loving good patriots.

What's more boring than golf on tv? Golf on radio.

When I was jr high I mowed several lawns including my (very old) 1st grade teacher. I noticed she watching golf on tv. She watched it all the time because, “the scenery is so nice!”

Jerry is completely clear-headed about what his players do. If it costs him money, they’re gone. The fans have rarely cared about criminal behavior off the field. If linebacker Roderick X issues a press statement denying that he will be at next Friday’s night club shooting, the fans will laugh it off as long as he plays his position well. But fans draw the line at misconduct on the field, and disrespecting the country during the National Anthem is on-field conduct. Jerry knows where the lines are, and for the fan that conduct crosses the line, and costs Jerry money. If the fans really cared about next Friday’s night club shooting, Jerry would be “clear headed” about that too.

Amazing how the NFL has rules for a lot of things, down to what kind of socks can be worn. Yet, they accept disrespect for our Nation and its flag.

Here it is, in a nutshell. Not watching. Pro football should SUFFER from this. This is worse than when pro sports kept people of color out. They still wanted them in the stands. This is so racist they don’t even want white people,to buy tickets. They appear to not care.

Hockey is such a better sport; tune in.

Limbaugh said liberals are trying to destroy football. This will definitely do it!

Good coach. You want the money, boys? It comes from hardworking AMERICANS. You don’t support their country, plenty of other players out there who will be thrilled to stand for the anthem.

The destruction of pro football is by external and internal forces. It is the players and the complicit owners and commissioner insulting amercian values. That is the internal force de jour

Well at least there is still baseball. See ya later NFL, the NFL allows its’ employees to disrepect the flag, country and vets while on the job, then no more NFL for me.

Once I broke the habit/tradition of watching professional sports, it’s remarkable how silly it seems to me now.

Liberals, socialists, progressives, communists, are all the same. They seek to destroy and game or sport that will magnify personal individual achievement over that of the group.

Sooner or later, all sports records will be destroyed, because they are anathema to the Party goal of destruction of individualism.......................

Well if these players want to do this fine. I don’t have to watch their product.

Lets see if the downward trend in viewing continues this year, and if so will the NFL and the owners got the message.

So long NFL.

Last year a second string quarterback virtually reduced interest in the NFL by 10-25% singlehandedly. As this "protest" grows interest will continue to wane. I predict rocky times ahead for the National Felons League.
