Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has said he wants a face-to-face meeting with US President Donald Trump.
He told the newly elected constituent assembly that he wanted "a personal conversation" when the two leaders attended the UN General Assembly in New York next month.
Trump recently imposed sanctions on Maduro, accusing him of undermining democracy.
The White House has not yet responded to the comments.

If Trump says no, it feeds into the narrative that the imperialist USA is behind the chaos in his country.
I think that rather than meet with Maduro, Trump should meet with President Termer of Brazil or perhaps the President of Chile. The results of some trade agreement could be announced and Maduro would be sidetracked but put in his place.
