It's a standoff.

The other 49 (56 if you are Mister Obama) have our great Constitution, a wonderful history of freedoms and successes, a fair and just legal system, a system of free and fair elections, and a proud military history of defending our security and freedoms.

Cali has virtually open borders, lots (and lots and lots) of boarded-up businesses, and endless supply of litter and graffiti and crime (think drug gangs, here), a great little plan to reduce CO2 to prehistoric levels, a public education system that punishes intelligent and achievement-oriented students, and a phenomenal plan to build a "bullet" train to compete with airlines by offering longer times of travel, greater costs, lower reliability, and a very nice view of Bakersfield.

Hard to pick a winner on this one.

I would call it Commiexit. I am for it and they can take their debt with them too. We would just have to build a longer wall and Jim and John would have to move the Free Republic server to free territory.

Then just STFU and GTFO, already. You’ll be begging to come back in 20 years. Sooner, if we see a single Nork, ChiComm, or Iranian ship make port. We’ll send in the bombers to commit an act of ‘urban renewal’, and then some Marines to mop up the mess. Personally, I’d like to see the Kali coast break away. Just imagine all the Fruit-Of-The-Month Club defectives from the other 47 contiguous states that would beat feet for that hippy-dippy Socialist Dystopia. They’d flood in like ants and we might actually get control of the government back into the hands of the people again.

A California civil war would ensue and when the bullets started to fly we know who would be doing most of the bleeding.

Calexit won't happen but if it did, I agree with you. There would be California Pacific, Jefferson and Caliornia Mojave. And I agree that bullets would fly.

It really PO’s me that cities are going to “out” the companies which strengthen the wall. They also state that they will give no government contracts to them.The wall should be built at the east of Ca. so they can enjoy the full benefits.

Just to make everyone feel good, IF California were allowed to leave, the new magic number in the Electoral College would be 242.

Trump would have to lose the following states he won in 2016:

Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Pennsylvania
Wisconsin

And he would STILL win!

The awarding of federal contracts is public information. This effort by the dems in CAL is just more grandstanding and they are attempting to intimidate and boycott businesses, which should be illegal when done by a public agency.

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following from a related thread.

Based on the insight of another FReeper, repealing the ill-conceived 17th Amendment (17A) would arguably have the effect of ALL states seceding from the Union without actually doing so.

Getting rid of 17A would help put a major dent in not only putting a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that Congress cannot justify under its Article I, Section 8-limited powers, but also putting a stop to unconstitutional federal government interference in the affairs of the sovereign states.

In fact, previous generations of state sovereignty-respecting Supreme Court justices had clarified constitutional limits on the federal government’s powers, limits which the unconstitutionally big federal government has been wrongly ignoring for many generations. These limits are evidenced by the following excerpts.

In addition to patriots supporting Trump in leading the states to repeal 17A, patriots also need to support Trump in putting a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.

Once unconstitutional federal taxes are stopped, the states will probably find a tsunami of new state revenues (higher state taxes), that they won’t know what to do with, establishing their own healthcare programs, improving public schools, increasing funding for police and fire departments and repairing infrastructure for starters.

Since corrupt Congress is the biggest part of the sewer (imo) that Trump wants to drain, it is actually up to patriots to drain the sewer in the 2018 elections, patriots supporting Trump by electing as many new members of Congress as they can who will support Trump.

In the meanwhile, patriots need to make sure that there are plenty of Trump-supporting candidates on the primary ballots.

Patriots need to qualify candidates by asking them why the Founding States made the Constitution’s Section 8 of Article I; to limit (cripple) the federal government’s powers.

Patriots also need to make sure that candidates are knowledgeable of the Supreme Court's clarifications of the federal government’s limited powers listed above.

Also, unlike incumbent members of Congress who wrongly remained silent while misguided state officials abridged the constitutionally enumerated rights of citizens during the lawless Obama Administration, patriots need to make sure that candidates on the 2018 primary ballots commit to the following.

Candidates need to commit to making and enforcing 14th Amendment-related laws to prosecute misguided state officials who use state powers to abridge constitutionally enumerated protections, 1st Amendment-protected religious expression and free speech for example, such actions prohibited by Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.

”14th Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Anyone lifts one finger to stop any state form seceding has to answer to me and millions of other small ‘r’ republicans.

My family fought on both sides of that war and we still loudly discuss the issue at family get-togethers. States freely joined the Union and there's nothing in the founding documents that says that the States did not retain the right to leave the Union and there actually is something in there about powers not expressly given to the federal govt are retained by the people and the States... Still, this is my country. Every last square inch of it so....

I'm really, really glad I wasn't alive back then.
