They’ve been here since the 90s and are asking for more time?! Dang ... how much more time do they need to file the proper paperwork to stay here legally?

Yeah, I went back and read it. Doesn’t say when they applied for the green cards though. They should have done that when they entered ... maybe it would’ve worked out for them.
