MacArthur wanted to go to war into China, with nukes. Is it your position that Truman should have backed down to a General with a repeated record of failure?
Repeated record of failure? He conducted more amphibious assaults than any other general in history, every one a success.
Before MacArthur, amphibious assault was synonymous with epic failure like at Gallipoli and Dieppe.
Only failure was Philippines in 41', but then that was Kimmel and Short in Hawaii that screwed him and put his possibility of reinforcement in the mud.
Failure, when?
Hindsight being 20/20,it would have been proven a genius move to not only destroy North Korea but also take out China. It would have prevented what we have today and the inevitable war with China tomorrow. I also believe Patton should have been able to kick the Russians back to their borders in WWII. I have very little fondness for Truman or Roosevelt who put the USA in a very precarious post war position that is nagging us today.
