North Korea now making missile-ready nuclear weapons, U.S. analysts say

North Korea has successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles, crossing a key threshold on the path to becoming a full-fledged nuclear power, U.S. intelligence officials have concluded in a confidential assessment.

The new analysis completed last month by the Defense Intelligence Agency comes on the heels of another intelligence assessment that sharply raises the official estimate for the total number of bombs in the communist country’s atomic arsenal. The U.S. calculated last month that up to 60 nuclear weapons are now controlled by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Some independent experts believe the number of bombs is much smaller.

The findings are likely to deepen concerns about an evolving North Korean military threat that appears to be advancing far more rapidly than many experts had predicted. U.S. officials last month concluded that Pyongyang is also outpacing expectations in its effort to build an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking cities on the American mainland.

You are correct in that Iran is a much tougher nut to crack.

But, without interference from Russia we can effect the destruction of their military capabilities, all of them, in 45 days.

Not unlike Iraq.

But we’ll have to be smart enough to leave once it’s done.

What’s an acceptable number of American lives and treasure you’d give up to destroy North Korea? One hundred thousand? One million? Ten million? How about South Koreans and Japanese? I’m not arguing with you, just trying to understand your understanding of the cost/benefit.

“Why do you suppose the war cries are loudest a) from our domestic enemies who b) are usually against any use of our military force?”

I don’t know how anyone could be crying louder for war than I am.

And DJT is threatening.

And, which left-wing stalwarts and domestic enemies do you suggest are crying for war with Norklandia? I see or hear none. The left is crying for further appeasement and warning of the enormous human, geopolitical and material costs of such a war.

As many as it takes.

Because it will be fewer today than tomorrow.

And, it is a war we cannot forever avoid. It will come, no matter our best efforts to appease and/or ignore.

It’s best to get it done on our terms.

Then there will surely be nuclear destruction in the next 10 years.

Iran and NK are run by NUTS.

Pakistan, eh, but these other two, bonkers.

Oh, and Japanese and SKorean lives and treasure cannot be part of the equation. If they wanted their interests to be counted they should have developed their own strategic weapons.

It’s in the existential, strategic interests of the US to eliminate this threat.

Clinton,Bush and Obama have signed a death sentence for millions of people with their asinine and idiotic policies.

If you are already over 25, I don't think you can possibly ever rid yourself of your ignorance.

How did we deal with this in the 50s and 60s during the COLD WAR with Russia? he he They had way more sophisticated ICBMs than the NORKS? At one point we had bombers in the air 24/7 armed with Nuclear weapons that flew over the North Pole and back. Most here do not remember that.

Throughout the late 1950s and into the 1960s, the United States and the Soviet Union had been developing missile systems with the ability to shoot down incoming ICBM warheads. During this period, the US considered the defense of the US as part of reducing the overall damage inflicted in a full nuclear exchange. As part of this defense, Canada and the US established the North American Air Defense Command (now called North American Aerospace Defense Command).

By the early 1950s, US research on the Nike Zeus missile system had developed to the point where small improvements would allow it to be used as the basis of an operational ABM system. Work started on a short-range, high-speed counterpart known as Sprint to provide defense for the ABM sites themselves. By the mid-1960s, both systems showed enough promise to start development of base selection for a limited ABM system dubbed Sentinel. In 1967, the US announced that Sentinel itself would be scaled down to the smaller and less expensive Safeguard. Soviet doctrine called for development of its own ABM system and return to strategic parity with the US. This was achieved with the operational deployment of the A-35 ABM system and its successors, which remain operational to this day.

Why is war w North Korea inevitable? Do you also feel the same way about war with Russia, China or France? All of those countries have the ability to drop a thermonuclear warhead on Cincinnati and have for a while. I don’t particularly like North Korea but don’t see why war is inevitable.

North Korea and Iran have made a huge breakthrough in both nuclear weapons and ballistic missile technology

Surely not iran or nork R&D at play here, undoubtedly the russo/sino nuclear supermarket after Obama schlepped about half a trillion into their EBT card.

Do the sanctions passed by the UN Security Council with China in agreement mean anything or are they a face saver for the inevitable North Korean nuclear missile arsenal?

Don’t know the final answer.

I hope not, but some voices out there like Pat Buchanan’s suggest we may just have to live with a North Korea possessing nukes because the alternative is the war the Never Trumpers lust for.

Indeed such a war could very well morph into a situation where the Never Trumpers in government and the media lead us into a scenario where Iran and Russia are defined as enemies and devils to be fought in an ever wider and more dangerous war.

They have long been in collusion.

Easy to understand that Iran helps to fund the NORK nuke/rocket effort.
