Missouri police on Monday were hunting for a man who shot and killed a Clinton cop late Sunday night during a traffic stop.
The officer, 37-year-old Gary Michael, died after a man exited a Dodge Nitro at a traffic stop and started shooting. Michael returned fire, but the gunman got back in his car and drove off – crashing his car just a couple blocks away before fleeing on foot, KSHB reported. It was not known if the shooter was injured during the incident.
Police named Ian McCarthy, 39, as a "person of interest" in the shooting.

Probably. Clinton is near the west end of the Lake of the Ozarks.
According to Missouri court records, he’s got a felony warrant from 2015 for unlawful posession of a firearm. He has a felony assault conviction in New Hampshire. Other than the gun charge, he doesn’t have much of a history in Missouri.

Police Officer Gary Michael was shot and killed during a traffic stop in the area of East Green Street and North 2nd Street at approximately 10:45 pm.
When Officer Michael stopped the vehicle for suspected registration violation, the driver exited the vehicle and opened fire. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Michael was able to return fire. It is not known if the subject was shot. The man fled the scene in the vehicle then crashed two blocks away. The subject then fled on foot and remains at large.
Disgusting. I’m so tired of this sh!t.
We need to bring back the death penalty, especially when the evidence is irrefutable.

I watch a lot of shows on TV like the First 48, Forensic Files, Snapped, and others, not to mention various news articles.
Very often the perps are people who should not have been out on the streets in the first place.(In the fine print) They should have been in jail longer, or have received the death penalty.(And actually be dead!)
