Believing as I do in the God of Abraham, Issac and Israel, and in that geology is based on physics and mathematics, it’s difficult for me to ascertain what these assumptions might be.

Enlighten me?

If you believe in the God of Abraham, Issac and Israel why is it hard to believe the Word when it says there was a worldwide flood?

Because the extent of the “world” in those times was not much further then they had wandered.

For such peoples who were alive say, 5000 years ago during the breaching of Black Sea to the Mediterranean, it’s rather easy to understand how they may have considered that a worldwide phenomenon.

Global stratigraphy however, does not bear out the fact that such a global instant deposition of sediments took place, and that rather these were laid down intermittently over hundreds of millions, and in some cases a billion or more years before the present; long before there were humans around to consider them.

God didn’t write The Bible. People did. Though they were certainly inspired by His Being within existence, they were not modern peoples, any more than we will be to those 5000 years advanced from us. And my hope...my faith is that they will feel even closer to Him than those of them in the distant past.

The Greek indicates all of the world was covered.

I take it you don’t believe God created everything in six 24 hour days.

In his book, “The Science Of God: The Convergence Of Scientific and Biblical Wisdom”, physicist Gerald L Schroeder puts forth an interesting timeline which, given the theory of relativity, takes in time from the Bible’s perspective looking forward from Day One (24 hours), and from the Earth’s perspective looking backward in billions of years from the present. Oddly, he comes up with both scenarios being equally plausible.

I however, do have a problem with the idea of 24 hour days being the norm even before the Earth was created, and which is not in synch with what we observe across the universe, in which time is a relative construct, passing more slowly in extreme gravitational environments and more quickly in less massive ones; E=mc² which can, in fact, be demonstrated...i.e., from earth orbit, or in the precession of perihelia of the planet Mercury.

I believe we do more of a credit to God in dealing with His creation in the way it appears rather than in ways we’d misinterpret it to be.

All - let me introduce you to a new book, ‘The Worldwide Flood: Uncovering and Correcting the Most Profound Error in the History of Science.’ It was published recently and is available at any on-line outlet such as this:

Check out the book linked in post 28. I’ve read the book, and you should, too. Why? Because you have not considered that geology’s belief that there was never a flood could be incorrect. It is undeniably so.

Not all of the world was covered, but large parts. See link at post 28.

The author seems to suggest there was a worldwide flood.

Genesis 7:19-23 says the water did cover the earth. More importantly it notes everything that moved on land died.

19The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. 20The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. 21All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. Gen 7:19-23 NASB

Get the book and read it. The author lays out very clearly geology’s historic error. There was a worldwide flood.
