Absolutely ludicrous. It’s a waste of time to even discus. The federal government will never let it happen essentially ceding 1/7 of our economy,essential military bases and West coast to Mexico and China etc. A more realistic scenario is splitting California up into new states one of which “Jefferson” will be “red” right off the bat. Northern, Central,and Western California are not as insane as Southern California.

President Polk started a war with Mexico when Mexico refused to sell California to the US--and that was before gold was discovered and California was sparsely populated.

Later, California voted very narrowly for Wilson in the 1916 election--otherwise he would have lost. Would President Hughes have gone to war with Germany in 1917?

Two "Democrat Wars" (as Bob Dole would call them) because of California.
