An Indiana volunteer police lieutenant responding to a traffic accident was gunned down Thursday by one of the injured occupants of an overturned car, officials said.
The officer was identified as Lt. Aaron Allan, 38, a six-year veteran of the Southport Police Department who had 20 years of law enforcement experience. Allan was the department's officer of the year in 2015 and was known by his nickname, "Teddy Bear," The Washington Post reported.

No mugshot of the perp in the story.
Draw your own conclusions.
Also, it says the suspect was hospitalized. Injured in the car crash or in an exchange of gunfire?
Also it says the gunman was shot by police.
Pretty dumb perps. You’re trapped in an overturned car and you decide to open fire on three armed police officers? Can you say “fish in a barrel”.....
Journalism is dead. The liberal agenda now determines what is reported in the news.
Sadly, this happened only a couple miles from where I live. The Southport municipality within Indianapolis, particularly where this event occurred, is a quiet little burb. They normally don't have shootouts like this.
There were two suspects in the car that crashed. Lt. Allen was one of the police officers trying to help the crash victims. Details are still sketchy, but one of the persons in the crashed car began shooting as the officers approached, fatally wounding Allen. Other officers at the scene fired into the car, killing one of the suspects, and arresting the other.
Less than 24 hours after this happened, we still do not have public information about the suspects.
Two people in the car. Only one identified. The MSM is covering. Illegal? Amish?
Remember when reporters use to write stories to answer who, what, when, wher, and why? I miss those days.
More likely the occupants were fugitives, and knew that this would be uncovered the moment they had to produce ID.
Or, it was a car-jacking/hostage situation. We just had that here in Jacksonville a couple of days ago. An officer was shot in the chin when a bank robber had car-jacked an innocent person to be his get-away. It was assumed the car-jacking victim was in on the robbery. It was only learned after a crash and then shootout that they learned the driver was a victim.
BTW, the perp was killed.

Not yet as of right now.
Journalism is now only seen on talk radio, the blogs, and by a few tv hosts who are conservative.
If this keeps up anyone needing Police help is going to be staring down a 9mm Glock. This LEO went to help these two idiots and gets killed.
Update 6 a.m. July 28, 2017:
Police arrested Jason Brown, 28, on a preliminary murder charge in the shooting that killed Southport Police Lt. Aaron Allan.
Hendricks County court records show Brown was convicted of misdemeanor marijuana possession in 2014. A judge sentenced him to 30 days in jail.
Brown, who lives in Indianapolis, has three traffic tickets in Marion County and another in Greene County since 2009, online court records show.
Brown remained hospitalized Friday in good condition, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Sgt. Kendale Adams said.
This has been the case for as long as I can remember. Many years ago, I read in the Readers Digest that 3 men met each morning and decided what kind of news would be reported that day. Times have not changed.
The Southport Police Department is a force of about 30 officers who are unpaid volunteers.
Don’t know the facts but if the ‘volunteers’ are retired LEO they likely have a golden parachute. Probably big pension and big disability tied to it all.
The police volunteer was 38 years old. You would have learned that if you had read the article before inputting his character. Are you a member of BLM?
Impugning his character not imputing. Stupid spell checker. Anyhow in the article it describes how the officer was thanked by a man who he provided CPR to saving his life Appears to have been a good guy.
