” You can disagree without being disagreeable, but you protect the institution and its members.”

Break up the country club. That’s the whole problem. The “institution” is broken, hence the election of an outsider. Don’t they get it? or are they just too full of themselves? Don’t answer, I know the answer.

“But that it would go in that direction was certainly not clear at the inception. “

In 100% of all Special Counsel cases, the investigations went beyond scope and prosecuted people for things not part of the original accusation/investigation. And the leaks have been politically crippling.

Why would this one be any different, and how could anyone not see that clearly at inception?

Most certainly the Democrats and the Media saw it that way.

““collegiality””

Being in a club with Schumer is no way to go through life.

What great things has Sessions done? How do we know the quality of his performance? I remember when so many were saying that Hillary was doing a “great job” at State, but I never knew why.

Sessions needed to put reasonable limits on this witch hunt before recusing himself. And when it became a witch hunt, he needed to respond with special prosecutors for Hillary, the IRS, and Holder.

I’m talking about the supposed conversations reported by wapo/nyt reports from leaked intercepts of kislyak phone calls.

So far as killing the Russian investigations by fbi early on, I think they could have survived that by citing a new, inexperienced administration.

Comey was a loose cannon, though, so he would have brought it back up eventually

In my mind Trump was just revealing he had gradually developed a dislike for Comey. None of that means Sessions and Rosenstein were not giving free opinions.

Is it possible to personally dislike a project but still give your boss a fair evaluation of it?

Is it possible to have the boss dislike a project but still give him a fair evaluation of it if tasked to do so?

A professional should be able to do that.

That's beside the point. Sessions and Rosenstein are well aware that they have to act in a way that eliminates not only legal impropriety, but any appearances of impropriety. Donald Trump -- for better or for worse -- has built a reputation for not giving a damn about appearances ... and this was one of the many times where it didn't work out well for him.

And I was talking about "I am absolutely certain he let the president down with the recusal."

Assume for arguments sake that Sessions did not recuse. How does that tamp down the fire?

Assume for agruments sake that in confirmation, he said he would not recuse from investigating Hillary, and he would not recuse from investigating the Trump campaign. I think in that case there would be no concern over recusal, because he would not have been confirmed.

Trump, not satisfied with recusal from a few cases, demands Sessions recuse from ALL cases. ROTFL. Way to go, champ!

These empty suits do not understand that Trump build his billion dollar business empire by employing people to get the job done. Nice guys finish last.

The Senate is pompous and self-important beyond all belief.
That is the message I draw here.

He would have been confirmed or been replaced with another name. A crippled AG is not helping the president any more than a crippled vehicle helps a cab driver.

Baloney!!! Senate Republicans are NO friend of Trump, Sessions or not. There were many times Sessions took positions ALONE with no cowardly Senate Republican support. If Sessions has lost the confidence of his BOSS, he should do the honorable thing and RESIGN. Sessions mad a mistake - thinking it was the honorable thing to do, I’m sure - by recusing himself from the Russian “investigation” and leaving his boss with NO support from the AG’s office. He should now “do the honorable thing” and resign.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to belong to a club where he was a member either.

Let’s not forget that Comey had told Senate & House there was no investigation of Trump. The FBI knew. Trump knew. But Comey intentionally postured in public that there was an investigation. He had zero reason to keep that close hold other than to have a dagger over Trump’s head.

Sessions knew that. Rosenstein knew that. THAT was why Trump disliked Comey. He knew Comey was lying in public on purpose.

So, Trump’s wanting Comey gone was not really about the Russian investigation. It was about Comey lying about it.

That's fine. But then Trump got on NBC several days later, and in explaining why he fired Comey, he said the following:

"In fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, 'You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story. It’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won.'"

Even though it's 100% accurate, he would have been better off just keeping his mouth shut on that one in light of what just happened with Comey.

This isn't the first time Donald Trump was his own worst enemy, and it won't be the last. LOL.

What could he have accomplished as AG if the coup members could keep him busy with "Russia, Russia, Russia"?

Well for one thing, minor as it is, there would have been no Mueller. Of course Mueller being a stand up saint will only do what is right. </s>

Pick another AG. Play the same "what if" hypotheticals.

What if Trump's AG spikes an investigation into Trump's campaign? Is that going to go easier just because the AG is not Sessions?

What it Trump's AG goes hammer and tong after Hillary? Is that going to play any easier for Trump if the AG is not Sessions?

If you answer that "no," then how does Trump get a better deal by firing Sessions?

I'm listening to Howie Carr right now. The idea of firing Sessions is not playing well. The upshot is a qualified person would have to be nuts to work in the Trump administration, and that Trump is disloyal and unhinged. I'm not saying you ought to think that way, or anybody else ought to. I am just reporting how it is playing.

Easy there would be no special council. Well at least one should hope there wouldn't be one.

Here's the way I'm looking at it. The coup members in the US Senate and House are going to keep playing this "Russia" nonsense until voters get fed up with it. President Trump didn't do anything wrong. He should stay out of it, above it. The kids are adults...they're bright, well-educated and honest. They can handle the hearings. Jared did an excellent job yesterday doing just that. In fact, the more independent they seem, the more believable their innocence is.

President Trump has everything to gain and nothing to lose by respecting everything AG Sessions has done for him. This is the ONE THING Trump has done that can alienate the most loyal of Deplorables. We depend on AG Sessions to keep President Trump from falling in with swampthings.
