President Trump and his advisers are privately discussing the possibility of replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and some confidants are floating prospects who could take his place were he to resign or be fired, according to people familiar with the talks. Members of Trump’s circle, including White House officials, have increasingly raised the question among themselves in recent days as the president has continued to vent his frustration with the attorney general, the people said.

I suspect that Trump and Sessions are playing with the media.

Trump and Sessions are having a good laugh watching the idiots in the media chase the cheese

Pieces are falling together ... "Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes ... Problem is that the acting head of the FBI & the person in charge of the Hillary investigation, Andrew McCabe ..."

Wray will be confirmed as head of the FBI this week.

Sessions cucked himself on Russia. If he had a conflict of interest that would prevent him from doing his job he should have said so. This has not served our country at all and if he can’t do his job he needs to step down.

Sessions has taken more substantial and unjustified barbs many times in his life. He was denied a judgeship on false accusations that he is a bigot.

It is ludicrous to think that Trump's tirade will affect Sessions' reputation. At this point, I don't think Trump's week-long tirade is even a minor discomfort to Sessions. He's out of the Hillary loop, for good reason. Why should he care what is said about his handling of something he has no business handling?

So are you in the camp that believes sessions is agreeing to have his reputation trashed in public over and over again with this public bully display?

I don’t agree this is fake news Laz. Trump doesn’t attack like this only to back off. Never has in the past. I just don’t see this as a media ruse/distraction. Granted I could be wrong.

What do you mean by "agree with?"

I don't think he was asked in advance, "If I slam you in the press, will that be okay?" I don't think he was comforted in advance, "I am going to slam you as disloyal and incompetent in the press, but don't worry, your job is secure." So, if by "agree with" you mean to ask me if I thought there was an agreement, no I don't think there was an agreement.

My observation was that I don't think Sessions is bothered by the tirade, that 's all.

I'm pretty sure my remarks convey what I was thinking, that the unjustified attacks don't bother him, and he doesn't see them as a threat to his reputation.

He was asked to respond to the very strong attack delivered to NYT, and his reaction was not the sort one would expect to see if he was bothered.

There are a lot of people here that think sessions is in on this as some sort of ploy. That is what I was asking you.

If trump will do this to session he will do it to any of the rest of them next

On the one hand, many/most President Trump supporters voted for him because he wouldn't stand for the blatant incompetence that exists in our Government and he'd fire inept public employees, "drain the swamp", create jobs, boost the economy etc.. etc.. etc.. These are the reasons I proudly voted for President Trump.

On the other hand, many/most President Trump supporters have seen and understand that he's loyal to those who are loyal to him. I count myself in this crowd also.

Both are reasons I'm really torn over what President Trump is doing to Jeff Sessions right now. Then Senator Sessions coming out for then Candidate Trump was a pretty big risk for Sessions. I frankly admired the hell out of Jeff Sessions for doing so. I still remember the first rally they both appeared at. You couldn't wipe the smile off my face as I watched it no matter how hard you tried.

I'm not liking what I'm seeing here and none of this has "ruse" written on it as best I can tell. Lord knows I hope I'm wrong. Don't think I am.

That depends on what you mean by "in on it."

I have speculation on that point, but it's my usual worthless speculation.

You are in the minority. I dont think ruse either on behalf of Sessions.

I will go one step further. If Sessions is merely a pawn in a ruse...and didnt agree to the ruse..it is a crap sandwich to do this to him.

In on it means agreeing to whatever ruse people here are claiming trump is doing. destroying a mans reputation is not a game.

What I said is true, the DAG is not an appointment by the AG, but nominated by the President. Whether or not Sessions recommended him to the President, as the talk radio hostess said, is true, I don’t know.

Let’s face it Sessions a decent man but not a fit for The AG position. A much better fit would be someone like Jay Sekulow or Joe DiGenova. The Senate needs strong conservative influences of which Sessions was just that and he should have stayed there.

As I said to you earlier, I don't believe Sessions sees this as destroying his reputation.

You still haven't clarified what you mean by "agree with" or "be in on it." I am trying to be clear with how I see the situation, and with what I speculate in in Sessions' head while the Trump tirade against sessions is played out large in the press.

I don't think the public insults bother Sessions, for reasons I gave before. They doesn't affect his reputation, and the insults have no basis in fact. It can't be Sessions' job to prosecute Hillary or defend (spike the investigation) the campaign. He's recused. Not his job. The system is built to look honest, and he's doing his part to defend that.

I don't know if he thinks Trump's tirade is serious, or if it is fake outrage. My gut tells me he thinks it is fake.

Another question is whether Trump tirade is serious in Trump's mind.

Why is McCabe still the Acting FBI Director?
Why has Sessions not directed (apparently) anyone to investigate any leaks (even ones not related to the Russia witch hunt)? Sessions seems very weak. A good guy who helped Trump but give him a different job.
