It seems to me that the safety net provided by the Constitution’s Section 4 of Article IV has failed because state government “leaders” are evidently a part of the problem imo.
”Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence [emphasis added]."
And then there’s a question whether corrupt Congress would actually intervene if state leaders requested help.

issue a good defensive firearm to every homeowner upon request ... (and make available more safety and marksmanship classes for those interested)
repeal all the illegal ‘gun control’ laws and the crime rate will go way way down as criminals stop (falsely, in many cases of course) assuming that the political hacks have disarmed the citizens (thus rendering them Easy Pickings for robberies, burglaries, assaults and batteries, etc). The criminals’ assumption will be forced to change to “if I attack that citizen, she or other nearby folks might be carrying...” so I’d better not attempt it after all.

Trump should bring in 101st Airborne, and have them clean out the vermin same as they’ve done in Iraq and Afganistan.
Yeah, that worked out so well in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both are real bastions of peace where men and women walk the streets in safety.

This problem could be fixed but would require extreme measures.
The problem would be a lot easier to solve if you realized the murder rate in Chicago is about half of what it was 20 years ago and is continuing to fall.

They're already branching out in the suburbs. Pretty soon the gangs are going to hit up the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, and all the other tourist hot-spots.
Everytime I travel and have to go through IL, I ALWAYS stop for gas, food, bathroom break etc. in Southern WI. I do not want to spend any more time necessary in IL.

Sorry to be a nay sayer - but I had a business dinner downtown last Thursday. North Michigan Ave packed with tourists at 10:00 PM. Hotels are full. High end restaurants booked solid. Had to make reservations at our 3rd choice. The killing fields are still on the South and West sides.

The gang-violence-murder problem is primarily in three neighborhoods in Chicago. Were it not for "political correctness" and handcuffing the police from doing their jobs, this problem could be easily solved.
Instead, Rahm Emmanuel, the ACLU, Jesse Jackson and the usual race baiting poverty pimp hustlers blame the police for the violence.
IMO, the Chicago Police should just declare Austin, Gresham and Englewood "no go zones" and let this problem "fix itself." Once the gang-bangers have all off'd each other clean up the mess and move on.

BTW my commuter train goes through Englewood and Gresham. They’re war zones. They make Beirut and the West Bank look tame by comparison. I’ve live-casted my trip into Chicago on the train on Free Republic’s facebook page to prove it.
