I think that giving the lady the $2,100 prize money, in exchange for a promise not to sue, would be cheap lawsuit insurance.

Company is totally classless. The right thing to do would have been to give her the prize money, and then privately explain that having her over would create unwelcome controversy. Instead they effectively slandered her character on a public medium. If I were the company’s lawyer I would be taking extra blood pressure meds right now.

They better pay it and hope she accepts. They opened themselves up to punitive damages.
