Trump's DOJ gears up for crackdown on marijuana
The Hill ^ | 07/23/17 | By Lydia Wheeler

The Trump administration is readying for a crackdown on marijuana users under Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

President Trump’s Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety, led by Sessions, is expected to release a report next week that criminal justice reform advocates fear will link marijuana to violent crime and recommend tougher sentences for those caught growing, selling and smoking the plant.

Sessions sent a memo in April updating the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and Department of Justice Department (DOJ) component heads on the work of the task force, which he said would be accomplished through various subcommittees. In the memo, Sessions said he has asked for initial recommendations no later than July 27.

“Task Force subcommittees will also undertake a review of existing policies in the areas of charging, sentencing, and marijuana to ensure consistency with the Department's overall strategy on reducing violent crime and with Administration goals and priorities,” he wrote.

Criminal justice reform advocates fear Sessions’s memo signals stricter enforcement is ahead.

“The task force revolves around reducing violent crime and Sessions and other DOJ officials have been out there over the last month and explicitly the last couple of weeks talking about how immigration and marijuana increases violent crime,” said Inimai Chettiar, director of the Brennan Center's Justice Program.

RKBA is an enumerated and protected right in the Constitution, which supersedes any laws passed by Congress.

Then surely you can state, with confidence, which of the powers granted to Congress in the Constitution the authority to pass the Controlled Substance Act.

Their treaty power, perhaps?

“P.S. This will really endear Trump to young voters.”

You’d almost think Sessions was trying to torpedo Trump’s chances in 2020. /s

After 8 years of treason and lawlessness with no justice, we now have a unconstitutional special counsel appointed to go after Trump—>Sessions is responsible for this coup.

He’s a deep state rat mole and he’s REFUSING to step down. Let that sink in...

So, you support devoting more than $1.59 to the Federal enforcement of marijuana law?

I mean, considering all the other stuff the DOJ should be doing instead?

So do you want fed-gov to crack down on senior citizens buying prescription drugs from Canada or not? It’s the law.

I’m a recovered alcoholic, nearing 23.5 years clean and sober. Used to smoke some weed, but never had problems with it. Quit because I no longer enjoyed the high.

In AA “sober” means no mind altering substances, period. Exception would be for medically indicated reasons, like surgery etc.

Anyway I do not agree with Sessions’ priority for marijuana. Several states have already moved to decriminalize or outright legalize recreational use.

I will grant the idea of MJ being a “gateway” into drug use. But drugs are going to be used and abused, no matter what the laws are.

I prefer LE focus on more serious and violent crimes, and more dangerous drugs.

Did a majority of holders of gold coins turn them in during 1933?

Most did. Who knew what the future held? They trusted the government!

The Gold Confiscation Issue: History and Future Predictions
We should clarify the terms of "confiscation". The US Government did not send armed soldiers house to house to search for and seize gold without compensation. Gold coins that were turned in were exchanged for legal tender Federal Reserve notes (paper money) on a dollar for dollar basis. A $10 gold coin was taken and the presenter given a $10 bill.

An even trade as far as most were concerned.

Dude, if anyone around here has a low IQ, it would be you.

Just ask any other member of this board...or your immediate family (if they’ll still talk to you)...or anyone else you know.

Though I suspect that number is very low.

After all, stupid assholes don’t know many people.

This almost makes me pine for Janet Reno. At least we could ridicule her as an outlet for our disgust.

I’m with you, Kalamata. This just makes me get billious every time I see him on my TV screen.

Unfortunately SCOTUS has repeatedly upheld the law. I don’t agree with that, but again, this helps make my point...this is what happens when people believe they can ignore parts of the law (and the Constitution) that they don’t like.

I have absolutely no problem with the Fed enforcing laws on the books, even if granny and grandpa get busted. You don’t get to pick and choose.

Do you have a problem with sanctuary cities and states?

The point is there are many Federal laws being broken or ignored by elected and non elected State and Federal officials. To have reform there has to be priorities to stop corruption. The Left is trying to finish off Trump with an on going coup and Sessions is more concerned about dope. Baloney!

If a person thinks that enforcing our Federal laws (all of them) is somehow preventing Hillary from being prosecuted then that person is insane.

There are - literally - entire departments - per State - dedicated solely to enforcing Federal drug laws. Not ONE of them is going to start investigating Hillary. No matter how much a person closes their eyes and wishes.

“Until that happens, they need to be vigorously enforced.”

Just like that federal mattress tag stuff, right?
