The Humiliation Of Jeff Sessions
Fox News ^ | 7-20-2017 | Chris Stirewalt

Posted on 07/20/2017 1:22:47 PM PDT by blam

There is something more than a little jarring in the ongoing humiliation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

In an ill-timed, ill-focused interview with the NYT, President Trump revisited his disdain for Sessions, his first, most-ardent and most-loyal supporter in the Senate.

When supporting Trump was still considered career suicide, Sessions donned the red cap anyway. Maybe it will prove fatal for Sessions’ career, after all.

The president has not made a secret of the fact that he blames Sessions for the scandal that now engulfs the Trump administration, claiming in contravention of all available evidence that somehow if Sessions had not recused himself from the investigation into Trump’s 2016 campaign that his White House will not be under siege.

“How do you take a job and then recuse yourself?” Trump asked reporters rhetorically. “If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, ‘Thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you.’ It’s extremely unfair – and that’s a mild word – to the president.”

Sessions seems an odd target for Trump’s blame, given how other members of his inner circle including his son, his son-in-law, his former campaign chairman and his former national security advisor have all laid the president open to the scrutiny of special counsel Robert Mueller.

My point exactly...That’s all we hear about...Mueller’s “investigation”...Over and over...

It’s the investigations you DON’T hear about that obtain results....

As I asked you...How much of the Medicare/Medicaid investigation did you hear about before the 400 charges were made????

Stirewalt is Megyn Kelly's handmaiden. He is a rabid NeverTrumper.

Having said that, Sessions has no honor. When he recused himself he should have resigned. By recusing himself he left his boss open to whatever he Deep State has in store for Trump.

I would never ever put my boss in the position that Sessions has. Sessions should be ashamed.

“Heck, I hope Sessions resigns for encouraging & supporting civil asset forfeiture i.e government theft.”

It’s just so much easier to confiscate the wealth of ‘little people’ without any of the hassles of obtaining a conviction than it is to go after genuine sociopathic crooks who made hundreds of millions by selling our nation’s natural resources to foreign countries, stealing money allocated to the poor for disaster relief, and selling our nation’s most advanced technological secrets to our enemies.

The regulation, 28 CFR 45.2, notes that a Justice Department employee shall not participate in a “criminal investigation or prosecution if he has a personal or political relationship with … an elected official, a candidate (whether or not successful) for elective, public office, a political party, or a campaign organization.”

“I recused myself not because of any asserted wrongdoing on my part during the campaign,” Sessions said. “But because a Department of Justice regulation, 28 CFR 45.2, required it.”

EVERYONE should complain . . .and do more than that

Call for the IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION and DISBANDING of this farce of an “investigation”

File ETHICS CHARGES against Mueller and Comey for conflict of interest and politically motivated witchhunt.

That’s all it is, folks. And all lawyers associated with this farce should be disciplined, disbarred.

This has gotten out of hand.

Only insomuch as your ilk is waxing hysterical over it.

Other than that, not so much. The President was absolutely justified in expressing his anger at Sessions for recusing himself—without even bothering to consult the President who appointed him!

Sessions has also shown ridiculously misguided priorities in trying to prosecute federal marijuana laws and civil asset forfeiture, of all things.

He's old school, soft-spoken Southern gentleman in an era when old school isn't cutting it, and hasn't been for decades. We are at war, and only a couple of Trump's administration seem to realize that. We need new thinking, not the same old tired ideas that don't work.

I hope Sessions does resign, because he has hamstrung President Trump worse than any Democrat could have dreamed of, with the direct result of us now having a Special Counsel who wants to expand—with no limits—his investigation into President Trump's every action, going back years.

President Trump should fire the special counsel—who is loaded with conflicts of interest—and dare Congress to impeach him.

With that done, things will be peachy within a couple of months, after all the exploded snowflake brains are cleaned off the walls...

Sessions has proven himself to be grossly inadequate to the task, and if he had a genuinely loyal bone in his body he would resign to let a more capable person do what may be the single most important job in the US right now.

Anyone discussing the merits and wisdom of Sessions’ recusal at this point in time is really missing the whole story.

Don't let it bother you.

Just consider it as the backstory.

He is rapidly veering into Chris Christie territory now. The Left will always despise him, and the Right are slowly beginning to see how far he falls short.

Sessions supported Trump early on and I am appreciative of that. However, he is past his prime and it shows. The job should have gone to a much younger and far more aggressive lawyer who, like Trump, doesn’t give 2 poops about what the democrat/communist media/entertainment/propaganda complex says.

Behind the scenes, Trump and Sessions came to a “meeting of the minds”. While it is never pleasant to be the object of The Donald’s wrath, once the air is cleared, the negotiations continue and the command structure remain in place.

Jeff Sessions is once more out before TV camerias and is demonstrating he is the public face of the Department of Justice.

“Sessions has already said he isn’t going to resign. That tells me the whole charade was staged for a reason that may not be clear. Yet.”

Can’t say I’d agree. Right now, anyone working with the AG’s office will be looking at Sessions like he’s a dead man walking. No-one will put effort or resources into working with a guy they think is likely to be out of the job soon, they’ll wait for his replacement. So Sessions job as AG just got an awful lot harder.

That’s a very clear downside and no clear upside to make it worthwhile. If the plan is media distraction, President Trump has shown he’s plenty capable of sending the media chasing their tails without having to attack people in his own administration. Plenty of other targets without such a downside.

To me this is as it appears - President Trump just spoke honestly about his disappointment that Sessions recused himself without so much as a word of notice beforehand.

I’d be more inclined to look at whether Sessions has personal interest in continuing to hold the AG post that might outweigh his willingness to resign. He may not have been prepared for the timing of the President’s remarks and has his own agenda that he wants to see through before resigning.

It is embarrassing if they do not.

That is why it was designed that way. You can read all the notes for yourself.
