Attorney General Jeff Sessions says he plans to stay in role, despite Trump’s comments about him

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Thursday that he plans to stay in his job despite the president’s public assertion that he would not have nominated Sessions to the post had he known that he would recuse himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

At a news conference ostensibly meant to announce the takedown of an illicit online marketplace, Sessions said he had the “honor of serving as attorney general,” and he planned “to continue to do so as long as that is appropriate.” Asked how he could keep working, having apparently lost President Trump’s confidence, Sessions responded: “We’re serving right now. The work we’re doing today is the kind of work that we intend to continue.

“I’m totally confident that we can continue to run this office in an effective way,” Sessions added.

On Wednesday, the New York Times published an article about an interview with Trump in which the president said he would not have appointed Sessions attorney general had he known Sessions would recuse himself from the investigation into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia to influence the 2016 election.

As much as I dislike him, Chris Christie is the pit pull. Read up on who he took down in NJ before beating money bags Corzine to become governor.

“Confirms my suspicion — shared by some others here — that the NYT interview was staged for some strategic reason.”

I just do not see any evidence of this 3D chess game Trump is playing as some here continue to see. Now we know Mueller is peering into every financial transaction he and and his rat brigade can get their hands on. Way beyond his supposed charter. He will find SOMETHING. By all rights Session should shut it down but he recused. Trump needed to get rid of Sessions so he can get someone in there who can shut down the coup. Instead he complains to the NYT and Sessions just goes on his merry way. With all due respect I just not see any grand strategy only a POTUS on the brink of destruction IMHO.

Hopefully, Mueller is on the border of getting fired. According to Rush reporting on a leak, Mueller has expanded his corrupt investigation to include anything, and Trump’s doing any business with Russians in the past or anybody for that matter.

I read a rumor not long ago Trump is going fire Mueller in the not too distant future ...sometime by the end of Summer. This should be true if not.

I don’t agree. There is nothing in his background or character that would suggest Sessions is not honorable.

If you know of something, other than events since his appointment that we can argue both sides of, please share it.

Why are you assuming that Sessions is not building a case against Hillary Clinton? Reclusal from the Russian investigation should not effect most of the cases against Mrs. Clinton. You do not have to charge her on all possible counts in order to bring her to justice!

I agree. Far more of a political animal than I would have hoped for. And at his age? What’s the point. Save the country.

Sessions made a mistake, he thought he was doing the right thing. Trump has already forgiven him knowing he help during the election and is doing a good job so far. Trump is loyal to his friends.

Sessions should have had enough respect for the president to discuss the reasons he wanted to recuse himself before he did it.

The president has a right to expect his Attorney General to manage all Justice Department activity.

If Sessions felt that strongly about standing back from the Russia issue he should have shared that with the president before taking action.
If a recusal was against the president’s wishes he should not have recused himself or he should have resigned.

Right now a ham-strung Attorney General Sessions is the best thing the democrats have going for them in their anti-Trump offensive.

Yeah find something stupid or wrong on his part. It won't do that corrupt clown Mueller much good since Trump hold the biggest ace card in the stack. Mueller is likely going to get fired in the next 2 to 3 months. Seep post 23.

fire him

Are you serious? The maniacs would block the confirmation of anyone short of Loretta Lynch to replace him. Obama holdovers would run amuck.

I'm wondering if Sessions could unrecuse himself since he's already testified.

Just a crazy thought.

He did say he recused himself did he not? Yes he did. Lets hope you're right and he is really investigating that ugly thing called Hillary.

I’m afraid Sessions has been notified that he had better toe the line or his family will be in danger. I think he has grand children.
