McCain tells his closest friend in the Senate that he won't give up as politics prays for war hero after devastating diagnosis

John McCain announced he'd been diagnosed with cancer on Wednesday night

The 80-year-old Arizona Senator is recovering in Arizona with his family

He had gone in to hospital to have a blood clot removed from his eye last week

The procedure set back the Senate vote on the Republicans' now scrapped healthcare bill

Doctors realized his condition was more serious after the procedure last week

President Trump shared his well wishes for the 80-year-old after news of his severe diagnosis emerged

Some questioned whether the brain tumor was behind his confused questioning of ousted FBI director James Comey in June

Senator John McCain is vowing to return to Washington once he's been treated for brain cancer.

'Yeah, I'm going to have to stay here a little bit longer, take some treatments. I'll be back,' the 80-year-old Republican senator told South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, his close friend. 'I've been through worse.'

Graham shared the conversation with reporters on Wednesday evening, adding, 'So pray. God knows how this ends, not me. But I do know this: This disease has never had a more worthy opponent.'

McCain underwent surgery last week for what was thought to be a blood clot above his eye.

The Senate eagerly awaited his return and postponed a vote on the GOP healthcare bill while McCain rested up.

Retirement for senator McCain would be the best for his family, friends, AZ and his health.

His aides will roll him in on a gurney to the senate floor,
place his limp hard on the vote button. And press yea or nay
depending on what McConnell tells his aides how to vote.

Had a friend in dog training that worked as a vet tech. One day she just stopped talking.

Four months later she was gone.

He won't be back. This is the end.

He was 28 years old. He will turn 48 this December. The treatment was so aggressive that it has debilitated him. Basically they “fried” his brain. Very aggressive radiation treatment followed up by chemo and radioactive wafers that they packed the tumor site with. Not sure survival is necessarily better than an early death - guess one would need to ask him.

You're probably right that it's "incurable and metastasizing." See his own medical team's statement from the article:

'On Friday, July 14, Sen. John McCain underwent a procedure to remove a blood clot from above his left eye at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix,' a statement said. 'Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot.' (My emphasis.)

The term, "was associated with the blood clot," is seriously discouraging since it does not state that the tumor was removed; indeed, it implies that the underlying tumor, or parts thereof, remain and continue active. Teddy Kennedy is definitely making space for another dinner guest.

He was diagnosed with GBM in April of that year and was told that he most likely wouldn’t see Christmas. I posted in another reply the details of the treatment. It was in fact the same type of cancer.

Since I’m paying for his healthcare it’s good to see he’s got something serious and he’s not just wasting my money.

This time away will give him a little more free time to conjure up another fake dossier to sabotage DJT.

I’m sorry he’s sick but I still hate hs guts. His sole purpose in life is to destroy America and I’ve had enough.

John will be visited by the seven men in gray suits who will deliver the message...... “Hang it up. You are no longer welcome in the Senate”

Since he’s going to be coming back I assume that he will be questioned as planned.

Maybe he should re think his return.

“Yeah, hang in there McCain, no matter how old, decrepit, infirm and addled. Cause power is everything.”

And there are still so many hapless innocents in the second and third world yet to kill, besides a POTUS to undermine.

'I'll be back': Cancer-stricken John McCain tells his closest friend in the Senate ..

This surprises me not at all. It has long appeared to me that John McCain's central focus is himself, not what is best for the country or his constituents.

Who’s surprised? ... Show of hands, please.

Not even slightly. I was going to mention it in the thread yesterday, but then I thought it might be a bit too callous.

John McCain has long appeared to be most concerned with his own perceived glory. I just knew he wasn't going to resign, because that wouldn't fit with his ego.

should Trump go to his funeral? I wouldn’t

Trump must. It would undermine respect for him if he didn't.

Yeah, with McCain’s lousy service record of being the last in his class, a lousy pilot who disobeyed direct orders, who was shot down being way off course, and has a highly suspect time as a POW who should have been booted out of the air corp if it hadn’t been for his high ranking father; I can safely say America would have been better off without him in politics.

It’s a real shame they didn’t kick him out of the air corp and found a desk for him to fly into obscurity.

I wish him well and as much of a recovery as his disease allows but only if he quits the Senate and all government interaction immediately. He has done enough harm for one person and while we don’t know how many are dead due to his actions working with the enemy; we do know he did.

Retire John M.

Trump will go to McCain’s funeral. In spite of the Fake News Media lies, he is a class act.

Regardless of how extremely sh*tty McCain was to Trump (out of pure bitter jealousy), Trump will attend McCain’s funeral.
