"Its become really clear to me that were losing more people to the sweets than to the streets," Geez! Jesse Jackson couldn't have said that any better. A few decades ago these same "reverends" would be bitching and moaning about how Coca Cola discriminates against Blacks when it comes to hiring and marketing. Civil rights activists used to lament how corporations like Coke all but ignored Black consumers. Maybe they should be careful what they wish for? Even back then it was understood that drinking too much soda was unhealthy. My dear Mom was very strict with us when it came to how much of that stuff we drank.

Another corporate shakedown. Al Sharpton would be so proud.

My mom also limited us drinking soda. So some of this comes back to parenting, doesn’t it? Don’t let your kids gorge on junk food and sweet sodas. Feed your kids healthy food, see that they get exercise, etc. etc.
It’s crazy to think of what issues someone will file a lawsuit over. A lawsuit over sugary drinks?? A preacher proclaiming they are losing too many to health problems associated with eating and drinking too much of the wrong thing?? Somehow that becomes a legal problem to be hashed out in court????

We wants to get ourselves summa dat MONEY!

come on suing Coca-Cola because you you’re fat ... first you say you have no control and 2nd you’re honestly going to tell me that the only damn thing reason you’re fat is cuz you drank nothing but Coke’s
There’s a 150 calories in a 12 oz Coke
In the average man needs to eat 2500 calories to maintain, not gain just to maintain their weight that 200 oz of Coke per day that 17 12oz coke a day....
Don’t give me that crap that your fat because it’s cokes fault you eating a hell of a lot of other things

You’re forgetting to factor in the Snickers bars.

People choose what they eat. Pray tell where is the horror if what they are free to eat things that aren’t good for them? Where is the dignity for them if their choices are made more expensive?
Make no mistake about it: government loves excuses to tax. Dogooding is among the best. Only the clueless will extend them an excuse, a pretext, and think that they are doing right.

Have you ever met an immigrant from Africa? They come from a place where life is hard. They genuinely appreciate being here, and they work very hard. Our domestic black people, who had it infinitely better, are spoiled.

"claiming soda manufacturers knowingly deceived customers about the health risks of sugar-sweetened beverages"
I'm 66, and I don't think I've seen a soda commercial in my entire life that made any health claims, or suggested that there was no health risk. The ads are usually full of girls in bikinis and fun-in-the-sun type stuff. I remember Seinfeld joked about it, e.g., "How come when I open a Pepsi, girls in bikinis don't show up, like in the commercials?"

Why does the entire world have to act as mother to black people..? Because so many black people insist on remaining child-like all the days of their lives.

I agree. My mom is in a home, and most of the caregivers are hard-working immigrants (legal) from places like Africa and The Philippines. I know a nurse from Kenya, who speaks excellent English, who once said that she's kind of embarrassed by American black "culture."
