They had electric car racing in Brooklyn back in the 60s. That is, the "slot car" variety. There was one place I used to go called Buzz-a-Rama. It was a supermarket-sized place with numerous large tracks for 1/25th scale slot cars and one for HO-scale. To my near shock around a year or so ago, considering the drastic changes that have taken place in New York City over the past couple decades (gentrification, mass immigration of Chinese, Hispanics, and middle easterners, etc) I discovered that the place is still there! However, it's a lot smaller than it used to be. Just a couple of tracks now I think.

Back then, in the 60s and 70s, they had a couple of tracks reserved for adults. There they raced for trophies and/or prize money. These guys had custom-built cars. But most of the customers were of course kids. They and most others instead rented cars from the store.

“Tesla welcomes government policies that support our mission and make it easier for more people to buy electric vehicles,” the company told the Journal in a statement. “However, our business does not rely on it.”

Tesla's best marketing move would be to develop a solar/wind/waste heat recharging system (not three systems- one that uses all three as available).

I have followed racing since I was about 17-—over 60 years go.

I caught part of this travesty Sunday & I was NOT impressed.

Sounds like a million angry bees. I would NEVER pay a cent to attend any such events.

Besides.....How much electricity does it take to recharge those batteries??? Electricity doesn’t come out of the air.

How much coal was wasted on this project?

An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy.[1][2] Heat engines burn a fuel to create heat, which is then used to create a force. Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical motion; pneumatic motors use compressed air and clockwork motors in wind-up toys use elastic energy. In biological systems, molecular motors, like myosins in muscles, use chemical energy to create forces and eventually motion. But what do I know, being an ENGINEER for 35 years. Drafter for fifty years. HEH HEH I love being SMART.

They should make recharging a part of the race! Give the fans a potty and beer break.

Yeah, I have noticed that lots of you harley riders prefer to disturb the peace and annoy people rather than driving defensively.

All I found is 185 mph cars that were somewhat ironically cooled with dry ice.

Man. I'd have a field day with that one.
