“Stay back, I am not after Egyptians,” Shaaban shouted in Arabic at his pursuers, according to the officials. They eventually caught up with him, disarmed and pinned him down and later handed him over to the police. Shaaban stabbed the women in the face, neck and feet, said the officials.

No group claimed responsibility for the Friday attack, but it appeared to have been inspired by recent calls made by the local affiliate of the extremist Islamic State group on its followers to attack Egypt’s minority Christians and foreign tourists.

This is an important story. I did a quick check. The AP has reported on the attack, and the AP’s article has been picked up by Time and ABC, among others.

But missing from all those reports is that very important observation: Abdel-Rahman Shaaban was moderate … and then he wasn’t.

It is also worth noting that all of the victims were women.

So you leave a country only recently filling with enemies of your nation to vacation in a land full of them. Bright. Might try south of France or Miama or Bermuda. You’d have a better chance but no guarantees there either.

When you hear about atrocities perpetrated by an Islamist, it’s always worth pondering the question, “what would Mohammed do?”.

Would Mohammed have pretended to be friendly to a group of people, and then whip out a machete and murder them in cold blood?
