Applebee’s Franchise Owner Forced To Cut 1,000 Jobs After New York’s Minimum Wage Hike

The CEO of Apple-Metro Inc., a company that operates about 40 Applebee’s restaurants in the New York metropolitan area, said he’s been forced to cut at at least 1,000 servers in the past year as a result of New York’s recent minimum wage hike.

“We have 1,000 less servers this time this year than we did this time last year,” Zane Tankel told Fox Business’ Stuart Varney on Monday.

That amounts a two-thirds reduction of his total workforce, Tankel said.

Tankel said the minimum wage increase has forced him to adopt a “concierge” type model of having servers help customers operate self-serve tablets and make them feel “warm and comfortable.”

“I’ve always said increasing minimum wage is technology’s best friend,” Tankel said.

Fight for $15! Fight fir $15!!

Idiots.

They just don’t get that half of those on the pocket lines bleating “Fight for $15” will wind up UN employed. They truly believe that the way to get a raise is to “demand” it.

These mopes are what my late father called “moo cows.” All they are capable of is standing around, existing, and making the same noise day after day.

When I entered the work force, I was making $3.35 an hour. I didn’t like it very much. So I worked hard. I got better. I learned new things. I eventually got two college degrees. I’m a senior manager now. Someone else is doing the job I had at McDonald’s #262 in Northfield, Ohio.

If you don’t apply yourself and grow, you have no reasonable expectation that your paycheck will either. Life is not a zero sum game. Some will make it more than others. If you choose to raise a family of minimum wage, well, that’s a choice you made. I didn’t start having a family until I had a salaried full time job.

If you aren’t moving up, ask yourself why. What do you have that other people don’t? If it’s nothing then you are at the top of your earning potential. Demanding a raise means less than nothing. You want a raise? Get better. Ask for more responsibility. Learn new things. Ask questions. If you don’t speak English fluently, take classes to get better. Make yourself stand out. But don’t stand in a protest live demanding a higher wage because you need it. That’s not how you get a raise. You have to EARN it.

Moo cow.

If they could get jobs it would be much more difficult to turn them into wards of the state.

I flat out REFUSED to give them one DIME if they were going to study some Liberal Arts BS
LOL ... did the same thing. Asked my oldest son what his major was going to be and he said Music. I told him he was on his own ... and he switched to Education. I picked up the tab (less his scholarships).

Along with the loss of those jobs is the loss to the company who spent time & money training them. Now, that ‘training’ might not be of much use in another low level job.

How did the lawmakers get re-elected? They are heroes to these workers.

If the worker somehow got the raise, they are grateful to the liberal politician who made it happen.

If the worker got fired, they are grateful to the liberal politician who made it easy to get unemployment and welfare.

“Worked like a charm. More parents should try this.”

What are you, SOME KIND OF RADICAL? Do you not understand that college is for children to ‘explore their dreams’, ‘find themselves’, and other crap.

PARENTS, as in us, are required to finance their children, regardless of cost or consequences to our own futures - and then just hope our kids get it right. You have failed at your job - you instead GAVE DIRECTION, and that cannot be tolerated.

(by the way, I did the same...got the same great results, LOL)

The REAL HOPE for killing off the Minimum Wage, once and for all, is to get a few more Gorsuch’s on the Supreme Court, and then make a play on it from the 4th Amendment...otherwise known as the ‘takings’ clause.

Because the 4th Amendment requires compensation if something of value is taken - and raising the minimum wage DEFINITELY lowers the value of a business...since higher prices for the same product means less customers - obviously. So, the argument is that cities and states should be free to have minimum wage laws and raise them...but likewise businesses should be compensated for the loss of value to these businesses because of said minimum wage laws. No different than the state taking part of your land for a freeway.

If that happened...then the tables would be turned 180 degrees, thus ending the Minimum Wage, and God knows what other Illegal government activities that go along with it.

I loved school, but my boys were not interested in going to college. I recommended that they go into the military to get free training. My youngest son is a Marine, and my other son is in the army national guard. Both of them have mos’s that will allow them to get good jobs when they leave the military.

I wonder if the Democrats are aware that wages go to $0.00/hour for employees that are cut as a result of the minimum wage being forced on businesses?

But Democrats do not believe in market forces because they can force fit their failed version of utopia on us. Of course the union thugs are happy with an increased minimum wage, so they can demand wage increases across the board.

“Now there’s 1000 people earning 0 $ per hour. Democrats are idiots.”

No. No. That’s the Plan, the more unemployed, the more forced on the dole which the Dems will sweeten when they regain power, so more Dem voters were created by their slick maneuver.

Pubbies are idiots for not seeing through this patently obvious ploy and stopping it cold. But then the ruling political class would not invite them to all those wonder-filled parties that only the rich and famous ever attend. So we get more unemployed which gains us higher taxes to pay for their indulgences which gains the Dems more power ... see: clever.

-——And that the technology business owners use to replace humans needs to have a tax imposed to replace the lost payroll taxes.——

That’s an idea that has been floated around for a while...

I’m still on the fence as I think it though....

Though I think the cost savings of replacement technology should in part be used to support the lost human job for a timeframe...

Why should taxpayers be burdened with supporting an person who is not working while his former employer makes more profit long term...

There is the capital investment cost aspect of replacing Joe worker..
