Too bad it’s not Ted Nugent!
While Kid Rock is not much strong on social values, he is instinctively pro-American, pro-liberty, and pro-individual. Interpret him as you like, as in his case his personal liberties are vast, but above all he’s compassionate for people in a way that no fraudster politician like Obama, Durban, Reid, etc. could ever conceive.
I only got to know his music recently following his involvement in the Trump campaign last season. If you want to know this man’s heart, just listen to this song: Amen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XfKGI2o_VQ These lyrics are conflicted, seeking and sincere.
Above all, he actually believes in America and its principles unlike John Mellencamp or Bruce Springsteen who may genuinely care for the under trodden but who are just socialists in the end — which makes them the enemies of the people they pretend to support.
Caring for people, caring for the American way, this is why Kid Rock even considers running for the Senate — he’s as pissed off as the rest of us. I’m all in for Senator Rock.
HOORAY Kid Rock!!!
So someone that votes 99% with his party is a RINO, according to you, huh?
Who is that?
Anyone who votes for amnesty is an American In Name Only.
We need more citizens and fewer professional politicians.
Wasnt he rock star ir is histry fickle?
Agree with Kids political positions or not,
At least he’d be honest and tell you flat out.
As opposed to the lying weasels in office now.
Lying Ryan.
Dodging Mitch.
Crazy as hell Nancy.
The phony injun.
I think he is right in line with the trump family. Question is... will he be dedicated to making a difference in real lives, or just pushing a doctrine of family destruction?
I admire his entertainment style, but it’s not life and faith affirming, it’s just unique.
I hope this just a publicity stunt
State Supreme Court Justice Bob Young should be the Republican nominee.
Nothing against Justice Young, but we’ve run countless conventional candidates for the Senate in Michigan, and they’ve all come up short. An unconventional celebrity candidacy may be the one to cinch it. Seeing how Fauxcahontas crapped her moccasins the other day, it tells me the Dems may have private polling data indicating Stabenow is in trouble.
It’s pretty clear that the Dems can’t attack Kid Rock for his love of Michigan and Detroit and that he’s put his money where his mouth is when it comes to the state. Conversely, Stabby has spent what will be 22 years in Congress (House and Senate) doing next to nothing while the state has stagnated and suffered on her watch.
It took an unconventional Trump to carry the state for the first time since 1988, so this might be the direction to go. Let Kid Rock participate in some debates and see if he is informed enough and makes enough of an impression to be a legit candidate and worthy of our support.
“We need more citizens and fewer professional politicians”.
To run against “citizen” Oprah?
I'll take the Kid over those others any day.
Robert James Ritchie isn’t running for the presidency. He is planning to run for the US Senate of Michigan. Isn’t is up to the decision of the voters of Michigan and not from someone from Illinois, or any other state if they want to vote for him or not?
Really beginning with Jesse Ventura, Zero, then Trump, we are in the era of celebrities and while some and even many traditional pols still will win, celebrities who are non pols will be strong.
I thjnk The Rock will be the Ds best 2020 candidate.
Sure.
But I’ll damn well give my opinion on any Senate or House race cause every single one of the bastards has power over us all.
:)
Point taken, and I’ll entertain him if he’s serious.
But I’d point out a Black judge is hardly a conventional GOP candidate either. I am aware of only 1 Black statewide nominee in MI history, William Lucas (R) for Governor in 1986 (what can you tell us about that?).
As for the Rock against Trump. Eh, I don’t know about that. That would completely cede a major avenue of attack, making Trump indisputably more ‘qualified’. Pro wrestler is straight out of “Idiocracy”.
Lucas’s run for Governor was a fiasco. Dem incumbent Blanchard, whose initial win in 1982 was entirely due to the execrable UltraRINO Gov. Milliken sabotaging the Conservative GOP nominee, Richard Headlee. Headlee beat Milliken’s choice of Lt. Gov. James Brickley in the primary (in an 11th hour action, Milliken got him onto the Supreme Court as a reward).
Because of the national economic upturn thanks to President Reagan, Blanchard (and the MI Dems) were able to make it appear they had a big hand in “making it better” (along the lines of Dukakis claiming the “Massachusetts Miracle”, which was already happening under his DINO predecessor, Ed King, and not helped by Mike). Michael Barone, in the 1988 Almanac, made one of his “off” predictions, stating that Blanchard was the heavyweight in MI politics for time to come (Blanchard, as it turned out, had support a mile wide and an inch deep).
As for Bill Lucas, he had attracted attention as the Wayne County Executive (and formerly County Sheriff) at odds with Boss Coleman Young. Young, of course, pretty much hated White people, but was proud of his White puppet Bill Milliken. Lucas obviously thought it unwise chasing the White middle and working class out of the county, as Young was happy to do.
He switched parties in 1985 and soon after entered the Gubernatorial primary. It was considered somewhat of an ugly affair. Dick Chrysler was a leading candidate (who later won a House seat in the ‘94 sweep only to lose to, you guessed it, Debbie Stabenow, in ‘96), but was accused of a scheme for his employees at his business to collect unemployment compensation while they worked (emphasis on “accused”, whether it was true or not, I have no idea). Also, not mentioned by Barone, was that John Engler’s first wife (whom he was in the process of divorcing that year), Colleen Engler, a State Representative, also ran against both Lucas and Chrysler, placing 3rd.
I’m not sure the circumstances for her run, whether her husband (then the MI Senate Majority Leader) approved, or whether it was spite (hoping that if she ran and won, she’d prevent her ex from a future run as he was planning). In any event, Lucas picked Engler (or the party did) to be his running mate.
As I said above, it was ultimately a fiasco. Lucas-Engler barely got above 31% of the vote in the general in a very low turnout election (historically, the worst showing for the party opposite the Democrats in the history of the state in a Gubernatorial race).
Blanchard was able to paint himself as a tax cutter and responsible for the MI recovery, and the general public bought it (although it all should’ve been under a Gov. Headlee). The Dems got 55% of the vote in legislative elections, though John Engler was able to hold a narrow Senate majority for the Republicans.
Blanchard’s “popularity” would crumble by 1990, and John Engler himself was able to finish him off in his run for a 3rd term. As for Lucas, he was hired by the Justice Department and later finished his career as a Circuit Court Judge. He turns 90 next year.
In any event, my concern is that Justice Young is too old and unmotivating for the base, one that might be more apt to go with someone younger and more exciting. If the 17th were repealed, Young would probably be an odds-on favorite, but with that businesswoman and Kid Rock, these may prove to be a tougher challenge for Stabenow.
As for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, has he even formally declared himself a Democrat ? I can’t see the party going for an outsider. They detest outsiders with a passion (the Dem Establishment, at least, much like their GOP-E buddies). They’d stick with professional pitbull fascist harridans like Kamala Harris.
I happened to come across this old issue of the Ripon (Society) Forum newsletter, sizing up (rather accurately) the coming disaster for the 1974 elections. The newsletter is erroneously dated January 1973, but it is from January 1974. Curious to see many future “stars” mentioned (including my RINO Senator Lamar! Alexander embarking on his first race for Governor that year, which he lost; Future NYC Mayor David Dinkins not paying his taxes).
Ripon is left-leaning, but this was a pretty even-handed analysis...

Interesting. Thanks I love old analysis like that.
Sad to read about the looming Murtha election, GOP infighting eh.
The date isn’t the only error. “Michigan’s 31st CD”, they meant Ford’s 5th CD, which the rat won. Our Campaigns claims the Republican that went on to beat him in ‘76 endorsed him in the special. The source is a time magazine article that I can’t read for free.
We lost 4 of 5 of those specials, PA, 2 in MI, OH, only held the Cali one.
I didn’t realize we have maintained the MI Senate for so long. Never knew about the 1984 recalls that flipped the majority.
Just found a great wiki article that has party breakdowns since statehood
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_party_strength_in_Michigan
They were bullish on the GOP chances to win the ME Governorship. Ending up coming in third. James Longley (I), how did he govern?
