A former Soviet military intelligence officer told the Associated Press on Friday that a Russian lawyer he accompanied to a June 9, 2016, meeting at Trump Tower offered to provide information about illicit financial activity carried out by the Democratic National Committee. Nine days later, on June 18, Guccifer 2.0, the hacker believed to be a front for Russian spy agencies, dropped a bombshell.
“NEW DOCS FROM DNC NETWORK: LOTS OF FINANCIAL REPORTS AND DONORS’ PERSONAL DATA,” was the headline plastered across the Guccifer 2.0 website.

This might be a more impressive story if the Russian lawyer actually HAD offered actual dirt, of any kind, about the DNC. In fact she claimed to offer dirt but didn’t have any, at all. So why does the document dump matter?
The DNC server was hacked in May, this meeting took place in June..also it turns out this Russian “Spy’s” also works for Fusiion GPS..and his nephew works for Hank Johnson, ya know, the buffoon who said that Guam would tip over
Can we prove she didn’t offer any? The swamp will go crazy over this. The story just won’t die and I think for the most part the whole thing is either a set up or made up.

On the other hand, this really helps the Trump counteroffensive and has had the immediate effect of having the co founder of the anti Trump dirty tricks shop Fusion GPS,Glenn Simpson, abruptly cancel his scheduled testimony to the Senate Judiciary over the unexpected disclosure of Fusions employment of Natalia Veselnitskaya.
I see the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution being prominent in Mr Simpson's near term future.
Picture this; DNC knows it has been hacked and it was an insider (Seth Rich?), how can we blame this on Trump and take the heat off ourselves? Let's set the groundwork for a claim that Trump worked with the Russians to facilitate the hack and undermine the election. The meeting is the important thing, not what happened at the meeting - just the fact that it happened. They set up the meeting (it is already known that the Russian lawyer has connections with Democrats and is anti-Trump based on social media accounts). They push the meme that there was collaboration with the Russians, having the evidence of the meeting in their back pockets to spring at the right moment. The Russian meme starts to die peter off due to lack of ANY evidence, so time to spring the info on the meeting to bring the meme back to life.
why did you key in on that date?
Damaging information about Hillary Clinton might be valuable to a competitor's campaign, but information about "illicit activities of the DNC" are worthless unless they are turned over to law enforcement and result in criminal prosecution.

The source, Rinat Akhmetshin, was 23 years old when the SU collapsed. Whether he was ever a Soviet Counter-Intelligence officer is disputed. Akhmetshin is a DC lobbyist and sometime operator of a front organization called Human Rights Accountability Global Initiative Foundation (reportedly it has a website with no content, a ghost address, and a donation button to nowhere). He has also been said to be connected to GPS Fusion, the dirty-tricks squad behind the Trump pee-dossier, and thought by some to be involved in setting up DT Jr for this meeting. His mere presence at the meeting (I’m not sure he was invited or expected, but just showed up with Natalia Veselnitskaia) suggests he is a player in this tangled web. Recommend treating anything he says with caution.

The problem is that the email that invited Don Jr. to the meeting explicitly said that the invitation was being sent because of the Russian Government’s support of Trump. That sentence seems like a red flag to me — if they really were cooperating they wouldn’t have said that. But it’s not just a case of Don Jr. looking for dirt on Hillary. The problem is the explicit claim in the invitation that the Russian Government was supporting Trump and the fact that Don Jr. didn’t back away when he saw that.
