I suspect you might feel differently if you were a grunt in 1945 or 1950.
It has only gotten worse today as they keep expanding military capability. China created problems with Vietnam and North Korea. Russia forms alliances and enables, uses through proxy someone like Saddam Hussein, Iran now. We were at best capability then.
