GOP Drops Tax Cuts for Big Earners in Revised Health Bill, Sources Say (GOPe KEEPS Obamacare taxes!)

If people lived with better health habits, costs would drop by 3/4. When I came back to the States from a vacation in SE Asia, the first shock was how many fat people are here compared to SE Asia. Then add the alcohol consumption, smoking, etc.

In last 5 years, only doctor visit I needed was when I sprained my knee and it was painfully swollen. By improving my diet & exercise, I no longer am border line diabetic, and my mild hypertension is history. I need zero medications! OK, I occasionally will swallow a 80mg Aspirin because my father succumbed to a fatal heart attack in his early 70’s. I can still fit into my wedding suit from 1992. Actually it is a bit lose fit now lol. I am now at age 77.

I don't know much about these health care bills, but the fact is we never get rid of these entitlement programs once they are created. It's not going to be completely repealed. There will have to be either some kind of compromise on a new bill or keeping Obamacare. That's the reality of the situation. We aren't going to get everything we want. That's the problem with entitlement programs getting passed to begin with.

I'm not defending this particular bill because as I said before I haven't studied any of these health care bills. I would like to ask those of you who are more knowledgeable about this issue, what is the best bill we can realistically get passed at this time?

It’s a tax you are already supposed to be paying. You better check that out before the IRS audits you.....although I think it is only for stock market sales so you may be ok if you didn’t sell anything. This really doesn’t affect you since you have had this rule in place for years. Not sure why you think they are going to rip money out of your hands....they already have been doing that.

LOL you realize you repeated exactly what I just said and said I was wrong. Investment dollars, not income. THe other poster said you'd get hit with $10k in taxes at 200k of income and I said that would be true ONLY if the $200k was all investment income. If you had $190k (after 401k etc deductions to AGI) in earned income and $10k in investment income, with the ACA taxes, you'd pay 0.9% on the full $200k, but the 3.8% applies only to the $10k in investment income, so the tax increase is not $10k as that poster said, it would be $1,800 (0.9% * 200k) + $380 (3.8% * 10k) for a grand total of $2,180 in additional taxes. $2,180 sucks, but isn't anywhere close to the $10k that the poster I was responding to.

The only way you get to $10k is if the entire $200k in income is investment income. $200k * .9% + 200k * 3.8% = $9.4k in additional taxes if it's all investment income.

Very few households have AGIs over $200k/$250k respectively and even fewer have very significant investment income plus hit that threshold, so most people are simply hit with the 0.9% tax increase past those levels and a small amount of their income gets hit for 3.8% 9 (if at all, most are W2 income earners only)
