Earth undergoing sixth 'mass extinction' as humans spur 'biological annihilation' of wildlife

Chris Graham 11 July 2017 • 3:34am

The Earth is undergoing a sixth mass extinction, with scientists warning that the “biological annihilation” of wildlife is "more severe than perceived".

Blaming the overpopulation and over-consumption of humans, the researchers said the world had a window of about 20-30 years at most to tackle the crisis.

"Earth is experiencing a huge episode of population declines and extirpations" - when a species is wiped out in a particular location - "which will have negative cascading consequences on ecosystem functioning and services vital to sustaining civilisation," the researchers wrote in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"We describe this as a 'biological annihilation' to highlight the current magnitude of Earth's ongoing sixth major extinction event."

In the study, researchers from Stanford University and the National Autonomous University of Mexico examined the population trends of 27,600 vertebrate species such as birds, amphibians, mammals, and reptiles, including a detailed analysis of 177 species of mammals.

Humans... can kill off elephants but can’t get rid of mosquitoes.

I once enjoyed wildlife documentaries. Each one always added a coda of doom and extinction in the last 1-3 minutes. I could watch the clock and predict exactly when the mantra would begin. I kept asking how, if there were so few animals and so few species, it was possible to film so many species in the wild and in their native habitat so often and for long enough to have a 44-minute show and then be able to air the outtakes sometime later for another 44-minute finished piece. I would check the producers/directors/photographers/funding organizations and they were the same.

I just don’t watch them anymore.

I think what the socialists have in mind is to tax the heck out of western economies to create what amounts to an animal theme park in Africa run by the locals while 98% of Africa’s population continues to languish.

They’re guaranteeing the right of Western tourists to pay outrageous prices to go on ‘safari’. Which is very limited thinking indeed.

The coming one is described in the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

Oooh, I have that book! LOVE the main character and the ending is simply amazing.

They are languishing so much they are breeding like rabbits. In 20 years Africa will have 2 billion people. I guess they are finding food somewhere.

Still waiting for even 1 of the many environmental disaster predictions to come true.

The World's Most Important Graph:

This is an African problem not a White Western problem. White Westerners are already limiting family size while encouraging, via food and financial aid, the massive growth in African (and other non-Western) populations.

They also allow the movement of these people from places where they have a low carbon footprint to industrialized country where they will have a high carbon footprint

I think the solution to this problem might not be what those pushing it want.

Actually, there is a resurgence of life

The urban deer population places a few bean plants and flowers in jeopardy of being eaten.

Cooper’s hawks thrive among the trees in the neighborhood feasting on the abundant squirrels.

Raccoons prowl the neighborhoods at will, at night.

The Canadian geese pollute the walkways with green goop.

The wild turkeys populate the roadsides, seemingly immune to the traffic rushing past.

Acres and acres and sections of land are reverted forest.

When one lives in the confines of an American city and never sees reality, such clap trap gets ignorantly writtem

That trend can’t continue. The Pentagon stood up AFRICA several years ago because they anticipate major human conflict there. Continued population expansion on a straight line trend is not sustainable.
