At least five people are dead after a military transport plane crashed in Mississippi, according to reports.
The plane came down early Monday evening, sending plumes of black smoke billowing into the air above a field near Moorhead, northwest of Jackson.
Sheriff Ricky Banks told the Clarion-Ledger that at least five people had died on the aircraft, believed to be carrying nine.

Initially looking at the image, the wreckage looks inverted.
Might be A KC-130 out of Cherry Point, NC if it was a Marine Corps bird.
Would make sense to me. I know very little about these aircraft.
I was thinking of the brush flying by or into them.
KC-130s also assigned to Marine Corps Reserve unit in Fort Worth. No word (yet) on where the aircraft or crew were from.
Heard this in Tupelo, heavy hearts all around.
The field really was brush covered and it really was something to see. No trees of course and I suspect they had some airmen walking over the field in the weeks before the show.
Just to make sure there were no stumps.

Moorhead is a small town. Area is most likely soy bean fields as earlier comment said. Years ago would have been planted with cotton.

You are absolutely right. They change the pitch of the blades, not the rotational direction of the props. That is true for all turboprops, not just the C-130.

The burn area shows some splashing in a forward direction but the core of the fire is in the wing section where the fuel tanks are.
If the sheriff is correct there may have been a catastrophic failure causing the 130 to enter an inverted flat spin
The largest part of the airplane identifiable is most of the rear empennage and upper cargo ramp. Once you get oriented with that, you can see it is inverted and impacted intact. The line of flame is the wingbox and center fuel tank area.

Just broke my heart watching that footage. It looks so...random, final, and sad.
