Mother of toddler caught in middle of 'Live PD' chase defends suspect

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) — The atmosphere was tense inside a Richland County courtroom on Sunday when a man accused of leading Richland County deputies on a dramatic car chase had his first appearance before a judge.

Bryan Martin, 22, is accused of initiating a high-speed chase through Columbia Saturday night with his 1-year-old daughter inside of the car.

He faces several charges including child endangerment.

Martin’s bond for the child endangerment charge was set by a judge at $100,000.

Another bond was set at $3,000 for lesser charges including driving under suspension and simple possession of marijuana.

The mother of the toddler who was inside of the car, Dellavia Jenkins, was in the courtroom on Sunday to defend Martin.

"I understand where people are coming from when they say I shouldn't be on his side but they don't know the true story,” Jenkins told WIS in an exclusive interview. “He is a great father. He loves his daughter. That bond is unbreakable.”

However, despite Jenkins saying that she has no concerns with Martin seeing their daughter, the judge still ruled that he is not allowed to make any contact with the almost 2-year-old. Martin broke down into tears in the courtroom when that ruling was announced. Other family members, including Jenkins, were also distraught.

“Yea, he made a stupid decision not stopping the first time, that was the dumbest decision. But please, just re-watch the video and you can see the car is on fire and he is trying to get away from the car. He's not trying to get away from the officer,” Jenkins explained.

The chase, which was captured live on A&E’s Live PD, started on Furwood Drive and ended at Elmore and North Main when Martin’s car flipped. Martin is then seen on video getting out of the car with the baby in his arms and trying to fight a Richland County deputy.

Martin is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Some forms of stupid can’t be fixed

The way he shook his daughter like a rag doll it wouldn’t surprise me if she shows signs of brain damage

Bull. Good thing there is HD video of the situation. He was safely out of the car, away from the fire and fought with the policeman for several minutes. All the while, ragdolling that child violently in his arms. I was sure at any moment they would go down to the asphalt and slam the child’s head.

So, the Mom was inside the crashed, overturned, burning car?

I guess different women react differently.

If I ran from the police doing 90 miles per hour, running red lights and swerving into the other lane and then crashed and rolled the car with my wife there for the whole incident, the police would have been trying to protect me from her because she would have been screaming at me and trying to stomp me into the sod for endangering her and our child.

And she would be in court demanding that they allow her to hit me with an iron bar.

But, I guess different women react differently.

Dellavia Jackass sure sounds like a winner ... and she finds other winners on the road of life, too.

To stupid to be able to be free among the general public. Kid in the car, brand new car with dealer plates still on it, high speed chase, felony reckless driving, evading the police, fighting the cop with the kid in his arms, all on a suspended license while in possession. A real rocket surgeon.

I watched the entire episode live Saturday night. My wife was on the computer in the next room and came in to see what was on the TV that I was screaming at. If I were the deputy, I’m afraid I would have emptied a mag into that runner instead of letting him almost get a lethal choke hold on the deputy. And after the cops managed to get him cuffed, he continued his 100 decibel whining. It would have been hard for me not to whack him upside the head with my baton or stuff a rag into his mouth. All the cops featured on this show and most of the rest have the patience of saints. God bless them.

The mother wasn’t in the car. I had to read that twice myself. She is the mother of the child that was in the car.

The Cameraman that kept filming while the Officer was trying to subdue the Perp should be Fired. While the Office is wrestling the guy, the perp is reaching in his pocket and reaching for the officer’s Gun, but he kept filming, even while the officer is asking for help.

My second reaction; I was using language at the TV screen, directed at the cameraman, that I had to confess the next day in church. Ditto at the crowd of people coming out of the apartments who stood there shouting while the lone officer attempted to detain the perp, because #blacklivesmatter except when they're being slung around like a rag doll by a criminal idiot.

My first reaction, FWIW, was something I have never done before while watching the show, which is a regular in the chajin household: I was praying during the 90 mph-in-the-middle-of-a-town chase that God would protect and no one would get hurt. It is a miracle, but He did it. That young girl is destined for something good in life, to have been handed her life and health after all of this.

I saw it in 1080 HD, LIVE. What fire? I didn’t see no fire. He FLEW out of that car so fast that he didn’t see no fire either. He was trying to get away.

Fought with the cop until exhausted to get further away from the non-existent fire. /s

He then thanked the cop profusely for saving his child from the non-existent fire. /s

He then accepted being arrested for his conduct like a man, by sobbing like a baby. /s

He was a hero by getting the child out of her car seat so fast because of the non-existent fire. /s

Wait .... There was no car seat!!!

The parents show their deep love for this child by not bothering to put a car seat in the car that the father fled from police at up to 90 mph in city traffic, risking head-ons and t-bones by flying through red lights at intersections. /s

These parents are SCUM! Take the kid away, from BOTH of them!

Biggest one year old I ever saw.
