The first four days of legal recreational marijuana sales generated $3 million in sales revenue and about $500,000 in tax revenue, putting Nevada on pace to achieve an estimated $30 million in sales revenue over the next six months of recreational sales, according to the Nevada Dispensary Association.
The sales figure was generated from Saturday’s first day of recreational marijuana sales to Tuesday. The tax rate for recreational pot is 33 to 38 percent, depending on local regulations, with all state and local taxes included.
“We had a higher demand than everybody initially thought,” dispensary association director Riana Durrett said. “It shows this market really exists.”

This particular fallacy always cracks me up. Some prohibitionists seem to think that because cannabis is legal EVERYONE is using it or EVERYONE is going to be using it. EVERYONE isn’t using cannabis now. EVERYONE won’t be using it tomorrow or 5-10-100,000,000 years from now.
Truth is, cannabis use will tick up a few points & then it will level out much the same as when alcohol prohibition ended.
And court costs. Not just for the DUIs but for the criminal and negligence cases sure to follow

Legal marijuana is never going away. Those who use it have found a way to make it legal, thus an incredible cash cow for the gov. Can't imagine why folks were fighting to have a formerly untaxed commodity become legal and taxed.

Because, unlike so many so-called "conservatives", some of us actually do care about states' rights, freedom, the Fourth Amendment, and reject nanny Big Government.
If taxes are the vehicle to make marijuana legal, so be it. Of course, those who do not buy it do not get taxed.

There’s an easy fix for that. Don’t use marijuana if you want those jobs.
I would love it if you posted links to articles, etc that show how marijuana use in legal states leads to homelessness. It’s easy to say “homelessness increased after cannabis was legalized for recreational use but the how marijuana causes homelessness has yet to be explained AFAIK.
Because unless the government goes completely nuts it will still be cheaper taxed on the white market than it is on the black market. Plus of course who really wants their hobbies to be illegal, it’s kind of a hassle.
Do you judge people who drink alcohol the same way you judge people who smoke weed for recreation? Alcohol is a MUCH bigger problem than weed is, but the government tells you that booze is fine and weed is bad.

That’s correct. And while Mom, Dad & my wife think I’m somewhat special I don’t believe I am the only one cannabis works for. That 29 states have medical cannabis programs would suggest cannabis is working for others as well.
Recreational cannabis is a different issue altogether. I applaud Nevada & all the states that have decided to legalize cannabis. IMO, the nanny-state has no business criminalizing this wonderful plant. Folks should be allowed to purchase, have & grow their own.
If you don’t want to use, cannabis. No one is going to make you :)
Hopefully Fedzilla will one day allow real scientific study so we can find out why it works for me & others & why for some it doesn’t. Till then, I look to the studies done in Israel. They seem to have a better understanding (probably because there is no prohibition on studying cannabis) & have some great cannabis programs, especially for the elderly I think the US would be wise to look into.

Illegal growers will certainly do this if they think it increases their profit margins. Legitimate, legal growers will never do this because the dispensaries will not accept such a product. No one in the legal cannabis business wants to risk that kind of liability.
