The first four days of legal recreational marijuana sales generated $3 million in sales revenue and about $500,000 in tax revenue, putting Nevada on pace to achieve an estimated $30 million in sales revenue over the next six months of recreational sales, according to the Nevada Dispensary Association.

The sales figure was generated from Saturday’s first day of recreational marijuana sales to Tuesday. The tax rate for recreational pot is 33 to 38 percent, depending on local regulations, with all state and local taxes included.

“We had a higher demand than everybody initially thought,” dispensary association director Riana Durrett said. “It shows this market really exists.”

Anything for a buck. What do you expect from a state where whorehouses are legal?

Hey, if you tax something 33-38%, there will always be an illegal market. Works the same way for booze and cigarettes everywhere they try those tax schemes.

I did hear that over the 4th, a couple of folks got popped for DUI weed. That brings up a question about a wrong way wreck on 80 near the Nugget the other day. Will tox tests be done on the deceased driver that went the wrong way head on into a tanker truck?

“This does not also take into account the damage being done to the brain and the long term costs associated with impaired mental capabilities.”

If the federal gov’t allowed actual studies on cannabis we could learn whether there is any damage done to the brain via cannabis use. In fact, the commission Nixon set up to study the matter suggested cannabis be treated more like alcohol rather than criminalize it. We know Nixon rejected their findings and did what he wanted to do anyway lol.

“I do prefer the law where you can grow your own”

Kinda like beer. You can’t sell it in a store without the state’s permission (PA), but you can brew it yourself, if you consume it yourself.

“I mean we raised the Washoe county sales tax to 8.125% from 7.825(?) to help the ailing schools and they’re still short.”

You could raise taxes to 100% and politicians will still find a way for it come up “short”. If they don’t come up “short”, they can’t keep getting more of other peoples’ money to spend and line their own and their friends’ pockets with.

"Well, will anybody besides administrators and various bureaucrats and union toadies at the schools see any of this?

Fixed
(and I am still angry about the schools increased taxes for a district that wastes everything they already have)

Invest in Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme.

These places that are legalizing pot will be drawing dopers like cats to catnip and the dopers will all be looking for their nightly sugar fixes.

Taking money out of the economy and giving to the government, AND inebriating the masses is not a good thing

And don't forget the extra SPENDING the State gets to do with all this newfound money!

Isn't Libertarianism wonderful?

Well heck, 50 years ago or so, doctors were helping advertise cigs and the benefits of tobacco. So in 50 years from now will there be an astounding finding that maybe MJ legalization wasn’t such a spiffy idea?

“I don’t see how you can assume that long term there won’t be more need for police when marijuana is legal.”

Cannabis users who purchase cannabis are going to become a threat to society? Puleeze. Every cannabis user I personally know is every bit as law abiding as apple pie. They work, raise kids, & generally don’t bother anyone. Please explain why more police will be needed where cannabis is legal. Should be good fun.

” More people will be dependent instead of being self-reliant.”

How do you figure that? Why would more people be dependent because cannabis was legalized?

“Drug users are unemployable, burdens on society, and destroy their families.”

Yet, cannabis users go to work every day, raise families & pay there taxes just like everyone else.

Are you a true Reefer Madness believer, perchance?

Maybe maybe maybe :)
