When President Trump tweeted a video of himself wrestling a man with the logo of CNN for a head, he unintentionally gave the American people a window into the psychology of online trolling.
The White House has not confirmed the origin of the video, which the president tweeted on Sunday with the message “#FraudNewsCNN #FNN.” But a Reddit user going by “HanAssholeSolo,” who had also posted racist and anti-Semitic images, claimed credit for creating a GIF that formed the basis of the video. On Sunday, the user wrote on Reddit that he was “honored” to have his work appropriated by the president, whom he called “the MAGA EMPORER [sic] himself.”
But on Tuesday, after reporters at CNN had figured out his identity and attempted to contact him, he posted an apology on Reddit.
“I was trolling and posting things to get a reaction,” he wrote, “and never meant any of the hateful things I said in those posts. I would never support any kind of violence or actions against others simply for what they believe in, their religion, or the lifestyle they choose to have.”

Twits twitting. They know nothing and intend to keep it that way. Today’s WFTD called them out by name. They are the mumpsimus, those who stick to their lies because they know nothing else.
By most accounts, at the time of the Revolution, 20% were Loyalists, 33-45% were Patriots, and the rest were ballast. If you replace Loyalist with statist, and Patriots with Deplorables, we are right where we started.
Equally fascinating is the striking similarity of Loyalist propaganda to what CNN et al do today. Here is an example of Loyalist propaganda:
"This writer, and all others of his stamp, should remember that the colonies are now in a state of revolt and rebellion against their rightful sovereign. The British legislation is unalterably determined to bring them back to their allegiance. The most generous overtures have been made to them -- a redress of grievances, an exemption from taxes, and a free trade, have been offered. These liberal terms would indubitably make America the happiest, freest, and most flourishing country in the world. But the American Congress have madly and insolently rejected these terms."
Elsewhere I read that Patriots subjected Loyalists to public humiliation and violence. Many Loyalists found their property vandalized, looted, and burned. The patriots controlled public discourse.
I thnk we are seeing history repeat itself. The left/Loyalists are painting the Patriots/Deplorables as intransigent dolts who must be brought to their knees and Kiss the Ring, for their own good. In turn, the Patriots/Deplorables are not going quietly into the night, using new media to outsmart the Establishment and bring otherwise neutral parties to the side of truth and freedom.
