But legal documents filed in a US court allegedly show Mr Depp was "fully aware" he was breaking Australian laws.
His former business managers, The Management Group (TMG), claimed the actor had "pressured one of his long-term employees to 'take the fall'," in papers obtained by People.
'It is called perjury' Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce subsequently hinted that the government may reinvestigate Depp.
"If the allegation is correct, there's a word for that - it is called perjury," Mr Joyce told the Australian Broadcasting Corp.

“If Depp should be locked up for anything it should be the Lone Ranger.”

“Glad things are going so well in Australia that the PM has time to worry about Johnny Depps dogs.”
Australia takes that sort of thing very, very seriously. They have a long history of dealing with imported animal diseases and invasive non native species.

As Lurker said, we take things like this seriously in Australia. Keeping animal diseases out has great benefit to our agricultural sector.
But the reason the Deputy Prime Minister is involved isn't because he's the Deputy Prime Minister - the office of Deputy Prime Minister doesn't actually constitutionally exist in Australia (it's not unconstitutional to have one - it's just the constitution is silent on the issue) - so to ensure that the Deputy Prime Minister is a member of Cabinet, he's also a Cabinet Minister and by tradition the Deputy Prime Minister gets to choose which Cabinet post he wants. Barnaby as Leader of the rural based National Party of Australia (the junior partner in the coalition) comes from a background of farm based politics, so he chose to be the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources - and it's in that capacity he got involved in the Depp incident.
Very understandable, thank you for the information.
Big fan of Australia.
