I just purchased Amtrak tickets from Stamford to DC, and although expensive I picked a hotel very close to the Mall because I'm little worried about rioting and haters, pretending to be protesters. I think all I'll need now is a taxi from train to hotel and back. I'm both excited and scared, but there is a first time for everything :)

I live in Fairfield County, CT also. Why don't you just take Amtrak? I did for the Sept 2009 rally, the Nov 2009 rally and the Oct 2013 March on the Memorials. Marriott Courtyards exist nearby, and not badly priced.

FReegards!

Yeah, I remember when the MSM was finally forced to estimate the crowd size, they came up with 87,000 and ‘no aerial photographs were taken’!

Another lie refuted by the British online papers with aerial photos and an estimate of, I believe, 1.3 million people! It was a sight to see.

I looked for the pix in my files but couldn’t find them, unfortunately.

I got lucky! Certainly, I had no gloves to stage such a picture!

The crap was cleaner than the content of the sign, though.

Making Chainmail is easy but time consuming and tedious. But if anyone is interested in learning, I’ll be glad to hold classes.

Delicate Arch? Did you take that picture?

This Hoosier boy has been under the arch before and has seen it from the farther viewpoint a few other times.

I did not take that picture. There were not nearly as many people there when I was.

It's about a 1.5 mile walk up sloping slickrock to the arch, with the last few hundred feet behind a fin of stone so the arch is blocked from view. As one rounds the fin and it come into view, it is quite a sight!

When you are actually near or under the arch; it doesn't appear so 'delicate'.

I'm afraid THAT name should be bestowed on Landscape instead.

Full size picture.

I visited this one when you could still climb the sand pile under it.

Now, due to the vast crowds, the trail has been shut down to try to re-stabilize the sand.

My son-in-law and two grandsons saw this last June...

The most recent recorded rockfall events occurred in the 1990s when one large slab fell (1991)[1][2][6] and then two additional large rockfalls occurred (1995).[1] Due to the rockfalls, the trail beneath the arch was closed.[1][2]      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landscape_Arch

They successfully played down both the 2009 march (millions of people) and Glenn Beck’s march. Beck got smart and put photographers on the roofs so the public could see the actual size of the crowds.

DC has a great subway system with a stop at Union Station (Amtrak), JFYI.

I only live in Fairfield County CT but I think I'll have to fly because I have ZERO city driving experience.

Take one of those cheap buses between NYC and DC.They run frequently from "downtown" to "downtown" and they only cost about $15-$20 each way.

I don’t know what to expect but I’m on Amtrak now and will be going to the mall tomorrow. I’ve seen some posts on Twitter, people coming from Florida and Tennessee but not much so I’m curious as well. I’ve also seen some posts for meet-ups at various restaurants tonight which I may attend. Other than that, I don’t use Facebook or other tools so I have no idea what to expect. Hoping to meet some new friends and focused on staying safe and having a happy weekend. Wish I knew more about MOAR... :)
