They need to be careful: when the government gives you money, even if it’s through a second-party, they believe they can tell you what to do. Ask Hillsdale College....

Any time the Eighth Circus is reversed I would think that is good news.

Religious freedom won because President Trump won: Gorsuch was in the majority in this 5-4 decision.

It’s insane how the First Amendment has been so twisted that everything is allow in speech and government support EXCEPT religion. A total reversal of what was intended by the Founders.

This case was about a State refusing to give funds to a church because it was a church. I think the Free Exercise Clause of the 1st Amendment is an important issue.

“It’s insane how the First Amendment has been so twisted that everything is allow in speech and government support EXCEPT religion.”

It’s a commie/globalist thing mainly against the Christian relegion.

People have begun to have the “discrimination” idea backwards when it comes to many “separation of church and state” issues.

While the federal policy machinery should not FAVOR some religious outfit, over others, when it comes the granting federal funds to citizens, for anything, it should not discriminate against religious organizations, eliminating them from allocations it provides to other citizens.

Separation of church and state has come to mean SANCTIONING AGAINST, DISCRIMINATING AGAINST the religious. That is a totally modern Progressive constitutional interpretation.

Not sure how to interpret this just yet.

I’m afraid if they take government money, they’ll have to comply with government-ordered mandates, some of which they may not like.

It is not about playground equipment, but I think you know that.

The pendulum is beginning to swing back...

The constitution prohibits the federal government from creating a state religion (such as they have in the UK) not to remove GOD from the public square.

The left have gone too far in their attempt to remove all religion (except Muslim which for some reason they find okay) from the public space.

This is just one small step back to common sense.

The point is that the church should have as much right to make that decision as does any secular organization.

.
There are no “Separation of church and state” issues.

The subject was never inserted into the constitution.

The clause in the constitution merely protected the right of the states to make the decisions.

It was a 7-2 decision. Sotomayor and Ginsburg were the dissenters.

” In the face of the clear infringement
on free exercise before the Court, that interest cannot qualify as compelling.
Pp. 14–15.
788 F. 3d 779, reversed and remanded.
ROBERTS, C. J., delivered the opinion of the Court, except as to footnote
3. KENNEDY, ALITO, and KAGAN, JJ., joined that opinion in full,
and THOMAS and GORSUCH, JJ., joined except as to footnote 3. THOMAS,
J., filed an opinion concurring in part, in which GORSUCH, J., joined.
GORSUCH, J., filed an opinion concurring in part, in which THOMAS, J.,
joined. BREYER, J., filed an opinion concurring in the judgment. SOTOMAYOR,
J., filed a dissenting opinion, in which GINSBURG, J., joined.”

Separation of Church and State is NOT in the Constitution except to prohibit the establishment of a “National” religion

Yes, then they should also have the right to reject any government interference or mandates that contradict church doctrine or beliefs.

Good luck with that once you accept government money.

They were giving rubberized mulch away because it’s safer for kids. The church was rejected because its a church, separation, etc.

Given the purpose of the safer material, I can see that a group of people shouldn’t be discriminated against just because they are religious. The playground is outside the worship center.

But we argue that our entire outreach is part of our mission.

I’m wary of churches taking government money, anyway, so my rejection of getting involved with them would have led me to frown on this church getting a government subsidy.

I can see the other view, but I would focus on the danger. I think it undercuts our argument that EVERYTHING we do is part of our free exercise.

Ask the public school system with Moochelles lunch program.
