What if . . . they actually like Trump, National Review jerk?
Imagine if a Russell Kirk or a WF Buckley were commenting on the present scene and trying to make sense of it all and how it fit in to conservatism as they defined it.
Would they start with a number of false assumptions to try to demonstrate why, what they are observing can be contrived to make some sense to enfeebled brains, or would they start with the facts on the ground, and try to figure out where their conservative movement stands in relationship to the political winds and how they need to trim their sails, e.g. do they beat against the running tide, or put up all canvass and run with it at breakneck speed. Instead of all of that, they are navigating according to the precepts of Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll.
